I'm new here
Hey guys, I just signed up. I have a 1982 911sc Targa and I'm interested in getting a newer porsche. I saw autotrader has a 1999 911 coupe for $34,900 with 48,500 miles and an aero kit on it. That price seems a little low. I was wondering what the common problems on this car are and if that price seems right. Any advice would be appreciated
Price is a personal thing. You've got to take into account any body/mechanical damage/repair, and any existing conditions.
My '99 Cab is in showroom condition, I drive it 5 days/ week, has 36K miles on it, and it looks great. Loaded, a dealer would sell this car in the 50's retail.
The '99 coupe you are looking at might have few options, but if in decent shape, sounds like a buy. But remember, there is no warranty, so you're SOL if something major breaks.
Good luck. Go see the car in person if you can.

I avoided buying a used Porsche.
W/O warranty too....forget it.
I work in the Automotive repair business, I know better to buy a used Porsche.....A used Honda, Toyota, Nissan or even an Acura, no problems, cost of repair is probably nominal ($500) , Cost of Porsche repair ($1000 well above)
This is why I have a new car every 4 years.

I just had to deal with 2 of those claims today and I swear it would be the last time.
1. They don't cover anything that would actually break.
2. They try to use inferior (aftermarket) if not used parts.
3. The reimbursement and claims process is very very difficult.
4. You'll find most shops and shop owners don't want to deal with the hassle.
5. It's not worth it.
But this particular car is very nice for $34K.
Is this car an early MY99 or late MY99? The earley MY99 996s had amber headlight/taillights. The late MY99 and all subsequent 996s have clear lights. From what I've read, many of the nagging problems on early MY99s (which were essentially MY98s in Europe) were fixed with the late MY99s. I had a late MY99 996 C2 as my previous Porsche and I never had a single problem with it. I sold it to a business acquaitenance at 29K miles a year ago and he hasn't had any problems either.
Get a thorough PPI done. If the car checks out, I would not be afraid to buy it. Also, find out what options are on the car. At $34,900, the price looks pretty good. Remember, you are getting a $70K-$80K+ stickered car for half the original value. If the car was properly maintained, it should drive like or better than new for many more miles.

[B]Nice car! But again, being in the automotive field and having to deal with aftermarket warranties, I would definately not waste my money dealing with those A-Holes. They don't cover anything.
I also work in the automotive field and can tell you that not all aftermarket warranty companies are A-Holes. Do your homework, read the policy, and find out who honors the policy. You have choices. Don't take for gospel the opinion of one person just because they work in a garage.

Being a guy that bought an early 99 996 I love the value that I got in mine. I did my research and the car checked out. It had its RMS replaced. It also had several minor things done.
And I tell you that as long as the car is in good mechanical shape, there are plenty of shops that can do quality work for reasonable prices for other things.
If this car checks out, get it..............
