porsche paint

I have a 2003 cab, I read in the owners manual that Porsche paint is water based, if that's right then any body work touch ups are to be done with the same water based paint? Any comments on this?

From what I understand, they simply look up the color code of your car. When I had my parts painted at the dealer he mentioned they needed this to mix the paint correctly. Based on that, I assumed it wasn't factory paint and therefore any shop can do it.

All factory paints are water based, it's an environmental thing. Body shops can't do that kind of paint because they can't bake it on the same way as the factory. They use paints with a catalyst that hardens it at lower temperatures.
