DIY Engine Light Question

My engine light is on steady. I understand this is usually an emissions issue. Does anyone have any advise on how I can fix this myself?

What are the things to check and/or replace?

TIA,

Bart

Check the gas cap for the seal - it was recalled. What year is the car? Might be an MAF sensor as well. That can be checked by a dealer, and a PST2 will issue the fault codes.

Take it to the dealer to find out what's wrong with it, they shouldn't charge too much ($50-100) for letting you know what's wrong with it. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the MAF sensor.

Thanks guys. It's a 1999 with 28K miles.

It seems the MAF sensor is probably the problem. It figures this would happen as I was about to list it on www.autotrader.com. I guess it's off to the dealer to get it repaired :-(
