$616 fine for no front plates...

I never got a no front plate ticket until relocating to SoCal (from NorCal) a bit over a year ago. Got two no front plate tickets, both around the Hollywood/Sunset area.

Was in my M5, which doesn't even have drill holes, and I didn't want to put holes in the bumper. So instead of paying the $10 admin fee to have a sheriff/check station sign off on me having front plates after putting them on, I always just walked into the LA courthouse and paid $92 to dismiss the ticket by paying the full fine.

Got my third no front plate ticket a couple months ago, and had until 2/18 to either get it corrected ($10), or dismissed via full fine ($92). My own fault, but I was an idiot and was travelling out of country, so I figured instead of calling and mailing in my fee, I'd just skip that date figuring I'd get another notice in the mail with some late penalty.

Well, I got another notice alright - "As a result of your failture to appear, the court has placed a hold on your driver's license with the DMV. DMV will suspend your driving privilege if you fail to clear this matter....blah blah blah...a civil assessment of $250 was added to your bail...blah blah blah.

Bail amount: $610

Holy c..p! Sure makes paying the $92 by the due date a bargain.

The marvel of our police force and administration. They can't catch the guy who steals your car, but sure can lighten your wallet...
Anyways, just to make you feel better ... up here (Quebec) ... we don't have front plates, they are not required.

Which reminds me.... I'd better drop by the local dealer and get the mounts for the front plate.

write a letter to the judge and let him know you were out of the country on business and he'll most likely dismiss the additional charges. Ive done it
