Wheel Shims/Spacers?

What is the deal with shims and spacers? It looks like you can insert shims up to about 11mm without extending the bolts. Who carries these and how much do they cost?

I just ordered a set from FVD. They recommend a kit for 7mm front and 15mm rear for my C2. They'll run somewhere in the $200+ range for all four.

Why do you want to do this? General rule of thumb is too avoid any spacers you do not need. You guys need them for brake clearance or just for looks?

I agree whats the point? If you spend 70k on your car i'd think you could afford a set of wheels that stuck out further than the stock wheels. Plus arn't spacers unsafe?

If they were unsafe then why would Porsche put them on their own cars and also sell them as a Tequipment option?

I've talked to guys that have bought the SportDesign wheels, and they told me that Porsche included spacers on their cars.

There have been a number threads on this topic before...
Just make sure you don't buy any cheaply made spacers that are not hubcentric.

I'll post up pics after I put them on and you can judge for yourself whether they fit your taste.
