So I called Jet Chips, they are located in Huntington Beach right off the 405.

The reason for the lower price is this:
The ECM upgrade remaps spark / air / fuel and timing.
Thier programming does not change rev limit or top speed.
They will custom program for aftermarket add-ons such as intake / exhaust / altitude, you just tel them what you have installed.
They've been doing the ECM upgrades since 1989, and you can buy online + bring in your ECM locally to them for programming. They said if you bring it in, you can wait for it and it takes about 1-3 hours depending on how busy they are (8am-5pm M-F). They suggested calling ahead.
So that's the full info FWIW.

run away.
i had a jet chip for my 2001 Ford F150. after the electronics died two different times while driving i yanked it. luckily i was able to safely pull off on the shoulder of the freeway both times. pulled the module out and the truck would start again.

I had a Jet chip in my Chevy truck. Didn't do anything noticable. In fact, I think it ran worse and I ended up putting the stock chip back in. I think I still have it in the garage somewhere.
guess it's the old addage 'you get what you pay for' eh?
I still think it's a bit over-the-top that a decent software upgrade costs almost $1k for a pcar. But if that's what it takes, so be it-
is there any advantage to GIAC tuning over Powerchip, etc? or is it the same thing / different name.
