Newport Beach quoted $300 for oil change. :(

Thanks Newport996 and Modfied for the kind words.

Newport Porsche is our best friend

Our oil change price is under $160 out the door. Performed by exclusively Porsche technicians, in an exclusively Porsche shop. We use Mobile 1 0W-40.

Both the Mobil-1 5W50 and Castrol Syntec 5W40 are on the latest Porsche Approved Oil list. I use the latter as I prefer the extra viscosity the 5W offers over the 0W at cold start and have always had a bias for Castrol products.

$192 at Champion in Pompano, FL. I thought that was high until I read this.

My first DYI oil change on my P-car this morning. Mobil-1 0W40 9 quarts = $60.03 incl. tax. Mahl oil filter with seal ring = $16.75. Total $76.78.

I recently had my oil changed and paid the $180. I watched the guy do it and it took 10-15 minutes. It was soooooooooo easy I couldnt believe how much they charge to do it. You crawl under the car, loosen the bolt, the oil filter drops out, and then the oil follows. You stick the oil filter back in, tighten the bolt, refill the oil. DIY man. I didn't do it myself because I had no idea how simple it was and assumed it must be soooo complex because it is a Porsche and they charged such a large sum to do it. Duh!!! Now I know better.

Just got my oil changed at Hergesheimer....great people, do a great job and as reasonable as anyone in the area. Another vote for them over Newport Porsche.

So there is a drain plug u loosen and remove first, then let it drain, follow that with the filter, then new filter in, drain plug in, and refill 9 qts?

So its just liek every other oilchange on like the 5 other cars I have owned....?

Pretty much. There is a sealing ring on the drain plug that is changed, another ring on the filter housing and that's it. Just be sure to slowly top off the oil, overfilling is a common problem and can be a mess/PITA.

Is ROYAL PURPLE a better oild than MOBIL 1 ?

THANKS

I would recommend an oil service every 4000- 5000 miles using mobil 1.

We dont use Royal Purple..

We recommend either Mobil1 which is the factory fill or Elf Excellium which exceeds all Porsche requirements.

For our race cars we use standard off the shelf 0-40 Mobil 1.

Our costs are less than the dealer but more than some of the other prices quoted.

All work performed by Porsche Factory Techs. Modern Facility which is clean and neat.. ( yes you can eat of our floors )

Hope that helps.

In all fairness to the dealer they have to make a living too.. Consider the cost of over head.

A service writer. $70-80k per year
Parts guy $50-70k per year
Technician $90-120k per year
Insurance $ any one who owns a business knows.
Real-estate $ Have your priced realestate on PCH in OC ?

And you can quickly understand why a dealership like Newport charges what they charge.

Its not different than going to see a Dr. You can get a lot of work done cheap in certain parts of the country.. You can also DIY Question is do you choose to take that risk.

Hope that helps. Just my .02
