NC Bob is infamous around these parts
The plastic base just snaps off. Grab both sides and gently pull up. Once you get the base loose, pull the base and boot up to see if there is a set screw holding the assembly to the shifter. If there is a set screw, loosen it and remove **** and boot. If no set screw, situate yourself directly over **** and firmly pull straight up. It's on there pretty tight. When it comes loose, it does it all at once and you can hit yourself between the eyes. Be careful.
