Because they are in business to make money and a high end top line sedan would make a very good addition to the lineup....Its not like these things are gonna sell in the 50k range...they are in the 150+k range. So they are going after a very small segment, with a high end car...bring it on...a flagship Porsche for the family.

I am waiting for this car. It won't probably be the most beautiful thing out there but it should be better than the M5...

Exactly, newport! I was thinking what the hell at first when it first hit the news.
But I've kinda accepted it now, competition is too tough in the auto industry,
especially when no one is giving the BMW M5 and the AMG's a fight for the marketshare.

it's the cayenne and the panamera that will allow Porsche to build our precious 911.

I guess I can see your point...thats why BMW has a concept today almost identical to this car, a CS or ???To be released in the next couple of years

Personally, I would rather have a new M5 or AMG as they both look a lot better than this fugly thing....

Please tell me you aren't going to try to compare a pre-production camoflaged car to ones that have been in production for years.

Don't like it. Looks like a someone stuck two 928's together to make a sedan. If it were a bit shorter in length it might look better.

i'm holding off further judgement until i see it in person.

but it does look like porsche had a few too many extra parts laying around, decided to throw 'em all together and call it the panamera though.

Hmm- I understand their marketing logic with creating this car... got to compete with some of the other high-end sedans such as Maserati, BMW, etc.
I just hope they don't blow it on design and the production release looks a hell of a lot better....

There is absolutely no way this car will cost over 100k (unless of course it has the CGT engine )

Wrong and right!

It will cost over 100k....up to 175k....it is rumored to be available with the V10 engine...thats probably the 175k version....for 125 you may get the 400+hp V8.

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/porsche...w-ar12103.html

They are not building a family commuter....they are building a FLAGSHIP car...that will go up against the Astons, Maseratis, Bentlys, S Class AMG Mercs, etc....WHy would it be UNDER 100k....NONE of those cars competing against it are...and since when is Porsche the CHEAPEST car in its market? NEVER. Its usually the most expensive in its class. I wonder if the Aston Martin fans are the same way about their upcoming 4 door model the Rapide....by the way the estimated MSRP on that one is $216k

ALL OF THIS IS SPECULATION... it doesn't matter what some magazine or internet site wrote. I just do not see the base model panamera costing over 100k, especially when they are expecting sales to be 20,000 a year. I expect the pricing to be very similar to the Cayenne.

BTW, here's a website that says it will be priced between 75 and 115k depending on the model. it's all speculation.

Umm...the magazines and internet sites, which ALL are saying its 125-175, are given info by Porsche. Thats the info they are given. They are not speculating. The car will be released in 2008, as a 2009 model. PERIOD. Thats not speculation. Thats why there are test mules out right NOW. YOU are the only one that expects it to be less....Oh these same people speculated correctly on EVERYTHING else...Cayenne pricing, Cayman pricing, GT3/GT3RS pricing, GT2 pricing...so why would they be off as much as 100k on the Panamera pricing? Why say they wanna compete with Aston, and Bentley if they are not going to? Do you ever here anyone say Infiniti is competing with Bentley? NO...its because the Infiniti is like 1/4 the cost of the Bentley, which is what a Cayenne costs....You can get a Cayenne for 45k NEW....you will NEVER see a Panamera ANYWHERE near that....So you say the Base Panamera will cost 45k? NUTS.....The Base MAY come in at what a Cayenne Turbo S costs....but then again, thats over 100k....

Do you really believe that porsche will sell 20,000 of these things for at least 125k? If you would kindly point me to a press release from Porsche stating the price, I would appreciate it... otherwise, yes, it is all speculation. To be honest, I didn't know you could get a base cayenne that cheap. I would expect the Panamera pricing to start at around 65-75k. Otherwise, they would be shutting out a lot of their customers. You say they are competing with Bentley. BUT, they also are competing with the likes of the CLS, etc. which is not 125k. I have a feeling we're going to agree to disagree, which is fine, as this is just my .02.
