article: will 996 resale value plummet?
from http://www.autospies.com/article/ind...articleId=2883
If you currently own a recent Porsche 911 (all models 1999-2004) and you've been depressed with the resale value of the car, you ain't seen nothing yet!
The cars have been hit hard on the wholesale market and will be taking and even larger hit now that people know the 997/987 are right around the corner.
And all you C4S owners that think you're safe...well, you're gonna take it in the shorts when Porsche announces the the 987 (911-S).
The new marketing technique for the 911 will mirror the Boxster formula. There will be a normal 911 AND a 911-S(30hp more than a regular 997)model.
Look for a $5-10K price delta between the two models and the sales mix to be 70/30 in favor of the 911(997).
Turbos and GT's stay the same for a year of two before the 997 versions replace them.
Over the next few years there will be at least 12 different variants of the 997.
Our suggestion is that if you're currently in the market for a 911 to be careful. Even at the rock bottom prices dealers are selling the current models for, we predict a significant depreciation hit coming soon...
What do you think about the potential hit on resale values?

well, only if u believe this sh*t. i've seen enough people are trying to find a decent used Porsche with no luck... at least in CA.
back to the topic, buy a car to enjoy, not to worry about if u'd lose 5k next month or not. also, this Autospies thing has been posted for many times already. i just don't see a point of it.
why do people like to talk so much sh*t?

Agreed. AutoSpies slung this crap last Friday, and I blasted them for it. I've got a C4S Cab at port, and don't really care for what I'm seeing on the 997 right now. Granted, new is better (usually) but dealers are going to rip you at MSRP for a 997, much more for a 997 Cab (I still have deposit for #1 slot for that one just in case), but I don't believe the C4S or Turbo/Turbo Cabs are going to plummet.

i hope you guys are right!
i have a 99 c2 that i certainly enjoy. It has 55k already, but I just wanted to know if the value will fall or drop drastically soon.
I know a few guys selling their 996 already and buying a replacement car in between their 997 purchase. so just some thought.

The Calif. market for used 996's is strong, just check the local dealers inventory; demand for clean low mileage C2's,C4's,Cabs,TT is high. don't believe everything you read.
Thats how rumors get started. Just drive it!
