My 1st Oil Change!

I have 1,450 miles on my '07 Turbo and was wondering when to change out the break-in oil? I've heard from 1,200 miles- 3,000 miles. But I came h eto get it answered by Porsche vets.

Im looking forward to change the oil myself. Easier than taking it to the dealer waiting, etc... I like to get my hands dirty once in awhile.

If you want to change it, no one will stop you, but you really don't need it until 6000 miles or so.

I changed mine at just under 5,000 miles...dealer said that you don't need it until 10,000 but did say they thought it was a great idea to do it now (I guees the $300 for an oil change is a small profit for them!)

What $300 for a oil change?!!?!?!?

MOBIL 1 0W-40 is like $6 a quart. It takes like 8 quarts. Its not like they are putting liquid gold in the engine....lmao

Yea everyone else believes that PORSCHE's need some type of special oil if your paying $120k+ for a car....LMAO

You think I'll be able to change the oil without any special tools?

Why change it? If THE FACTORY says don't change it, why would you? My dealer said 25,000km or once per year. If you want to waste your money, go ahead. These aren't the same oils they used to put in the Model T for phux sake.

Im not wasting my $$$ I'd rather be on the safe side...Becuase when the mtor is going through the Break-In Period there's alot of friction going on in the motor. Causing metal shavings floating through the oil. Becuase I like to take it to a track day but not with the break-in oil.

With regards to new P-cars it is best to have the dealership do the first oil change to ensure that there is nothing wrong with the car. I usually pay the high price one time and have them do the 1 year service too. I just had my second oil change (4300 miles on the 2005 turbo s). Hergesheimer in OC does a great job (949) 458-7223.

Also, the factory states a milage and time threshold. The time threshold is one year.

Answer me this. If it was a potential issue, why would the factory not say the first oil change should be at 1500 miles then XXXX miles after? This is 2007, not 1967.

No need to get so defensive. This may be the one of the most debated issue for ANY care...from Toyota to Ferrari. Everyone has spoken to "mechanics" or "engineers from the factory" or "company insiders." The bottom line is everyone has their own preference. I doubt anyone can find a single case of engine failure because they changed the at the factory recommended time frame. I also doubt anyone can find a problem with changing too soon.

If it makes you sleep better at night...change your oil. If you don't think it's worth the $80-$300 prices for DIYers or dealership changes, then hold off. This is an argument that will NEVER be finished.

lager99 - it's okay. Let him spend his money if he wants. It buys him peace of mind and thats all that matters. Right or wrong its his money.

On that note. I asked about changing my oil out at 5K miles and they said no need. They said it wasn't required and they didn't think I should do it. They said porsche runs out their motor before it is installed so I won't find any shavings, etc at the bottom of the pan. $225.00 for the oil change from them and they told me to wait.

I had mine changed out at the 1 year mark with about 12k miles on mine not because it was necessary but because I wanted to. No biggie.

I could care less, just going out on a limb here...I bet the Porsche engineers have looked at this...

That exactly what I was trying to look for.....So if PORSCHE runs the motor before they install it is a different ball game. I'll just hold off until the 1 year mark.
