M5 or S8.....
JimGT3 I can not believe I wasted any time describing to you my M5. You obviously do not understand the truth and have been ill-informed about what an M5 is. The M5 is not only not in the same class but still will rip the ***** off an S8 or S6. For that matter throw in the AMG's.
My M5 will trounce and embarrass any sedan you throw at me and many sport coupes (Z06 vette, 997 TT, Lambo Gallardo etc...).
So BTW "f" me, get the cruiser and forget the M5.
Good luck, GT3Ranger

huh?! I think you need to cool down and stop jumping on everyone that doesn't seem to agree with you. Just to clarify, I was making a comparison with the S8 to the Mercedes because of pure luxury and NOT on performance. So please reread what I posted before jumping on me and others....geez.
What apparently none of you gentlemen have addressed is driving in inclement weather with your rear wheel, drive high torque engined vehicles. As winter approaches, in the northern hemisphere, four wheel drive will be far superior to the two wheel drive M5's and the like. The high torque will be a disadvantage in wet or icy conditions. The S8, being A.W.D. would be far more efficient in getting proper traction under the aforementioned conditions.
If you really want an all weather ripper, with some luxury and style, purchase a Bentley Speed.

This is really childish! You "M5 People" should really get a chill pill. They are both great cars for different purposes with the S8 being more drivable and much much MUCH more comfortable. S8 also have the ASF which stands for Audi Space Frame, it means the entire car is produced with Aluminum, the shell, the structure, most components and hinges. As for build quality, you'd really have to see to believe, IMO BMW is horrible at fit and finish, with some exceptions.
6088TTS(Alan) I made my apology for my tone and comments to another member but are you insulting me, calling me childish?
I apologized and let it go because the discussion was not going to achieve a constructive end.
Go ahead and argue with EVO magazine who stated the M5 is the best sports sedan. Believe what you want , be happy.

it is really hard to find a great daily driver. i am in the same boat. however, i just picked up the latest issue of mt and c&d and the GTR looked interesting. i will have to look into it alittle bit more.
ok well..... In my spontaneous purchasing nature.....
I just got back from signing the papers on an 08 M5!! I pick it up tomorrow afternoon.
Silverstone on Silverstone leather - SMG - fully loaded!!
I couldnt justify the nosedive in resale on the Audi!!
I'll post pics next week!!

As far as the resale value, plenty of returned M5's laying around. Hope they fixed the issues with the transmission, I know of 5 guys that have returned their M5's under the lemon law.
Again hope you are happy but the S8 is not on the same class as the M5, two different approaches to sport sedanism.
But then again I am biased.
My M5 makes 709 bhp and 562 lbs/ft torque and every single hp and torque has been squeezed out competetively and the SMG and diff (3.91) work marvelously.
Out running and pulling 3 car lengths on a modded Z06 Vette in a rolling start of 60 to 185 mph is good enough for me.
This is getting old gentlemen, so good luck to all and lets enjoy our cars.
Cheers, GT3Ranger

BBGTS this a video of my M5 running a ZO6 Vette which was heavily modded and has 1000 lbs. on me. My M5 as has been stated is very modded with dyno pulls of 581 rwhp (>700bhp). The Vette was the toughest modded street car yet. Believe it the M5 kicks butt!!

What did the Z06 have as far as mods, I am not a big fan of the M5 but thats just my taste, nor am I fan of the Z06 but have to give credit when its due the Vette has come a LONG way. Good job making the Bimmer run hard and fast.
