Would you use a state of the art carwash?

Being in frigid Chicago, I struggle with this everyday.

I just can't seem to find a reasonablely close handwash near my house in the western burbs. My dealer offers free handwashes, but the porters, although earnest and nice kids, are not exactly detail oriented.

My solution was (and this is not for everybody) to: lower my expectations for a perfect swirl free finish. I figure this is the cost I pay for enjoying my turbo in the salt and grime filled winters of Chicago.

I'll use the automatic carwashes for the winter to get the salt and grime off the body and undercarraige (something the handwash places can't do anyways). I'll cast a blind eye for winter (the swirls are covered by the salt anyways ) and then, I'll pour blood, sweat, and tears into the finish come spring/summer.

Hi Greta - tried to shoot you a PM but your box isn't set up to receive.

Apparently I have a twin downtown - it wasn't me.

White is such a fantastic color for Porsches - really looking forward to seeing yours. It does have the real bonus of being a great swirl hiding color.

Hey, thanks alot. I love to wash and detail my car, but do appreciate someone doing a good polish and wax for me about every quarter. He has the same area code so he must be close. Thanks for the referral!

Gee, I can't imagine! I can handle washing myself once a week, I enjoy washing - and I can't complain when I hear what others have to deal with like you in places like Chicago.

We have 4 cars and taking them all to the car wash is a PITA(at $25 a pop). I have a commercial grade pressure washer and use it on the all the cars. I dont carve my name in the paint or anything. Keep it at 1/2 throttle and keep the nozzle 2-3 FT away and im fine.

I wash my 997TT every time a drive it. Lat week I drove it for 7 days str8. I ended up washing it twice. Cant stand a dirty PORSCHE.

Bye bye paint

I almost got a job at Barrier motors, but they wont hire you if you're under 21

Love your attitude! Any swirls or dulling of your paint or problems?

Ok Seattle Sun my friend - I am going to ask a stupid question. Being **** and neurotic and all those good qualities that people accuse me of with my car (and everything), I don't know how to use two buckets to wash my car - can you clarify your system! Always appreciate new techniques. I have taken two detail clinics - Griot and Bradly's and don't recall ever hearing this tip!

Honestly, there's nothing significant after eight months of bringing it to the car wash three times a week. And by "significant," I guess I really mean "noticeable." Yes, there are some micro-scratches, but I don't think they've gotten any worse from washing it. And I'll get it buffed in the spring and it'll look like a piano.

But honestly, even if I had the cash for a Veyron, I'd still bring it to the car wash or I'd have it lovingly hand washed by someone else. More power to those of you who enjoy washing by hand. Whatever turns you on. It's just not my thing. I'd rather sleep, play video games, drive my car, ride my bike, go out with friends, or even work. And for only $800 per year, I can roll into my car wash as often as I feel like. Three times a day if I was crazy enough.

porschenut911 is infamous around these parts
I only rinse my car and then use the california silicone blade to dry it, follow it with some adam's spray and MF. I detail the car once a year myself.

I wouldnt use the Barrier car wash. We have a lot of good detailers in the Seattle area that have detailed a lot of expensive cars...

Ouch! Probably dragging a lot of dirt behind that blade with a simple rinse. What color is your car?
