muffler bypass on TT.
muffler bypass on TT.
I am taking delivery of my TT in July. I have already decided to have my ECU re-flashed with the performance program. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with muffler bypass pipes. I kinda like the sound (but was told by a performance shop that its over the top) - at least the sound on the sound bytes video on their web site (awe-tuning). I like the afterglow too (sounds fickle - I know). I was looking for some people that have end-user experience with this -
Is the sound good, bad, indifferent ? Do you really notice it in the cabin ? or only when you are under heavy acceleration ?. Does it make a long journey "unbearable"?.
I will be using it as a "every day car" - perhaps once a month or so - on the track.
Looking for some valued input.
Thanks in advance.

The muffler bypass pipes will cost you HP and TQ. Contact Mike at AWE and he can tell you what happens (you do need back pressure on the turbo's) and what he has available. My '08 is being built this week and I intend to have an AWE product on it as soon as it gets to SLC.

costs you hp and torque ?. I was under the impression it adds 15/20 HP ?. is that not the case ?.
I am dealing with mike at awe ironically. Awesome - which is why I will go with awe due to his responsiveness and answering my questions.

You do not need backpressure on the turbos. Turbos spool most quickly with the biggest exhaust pressure gradient from pre/post turbo - the higher the gradient, the faster the spool. If you had a vacuum post turbo, the turbine would spin even faster

check out Fabspeed, I like their whole 'modular' system alot with the male and female clamps so you can switch the cats/cat bypass pipes or muffler/muffler bypass pipes in under 15 minutes or so as advertised..
