good decision, and if u are still bored next year, think about ordering the Panamera V8 sedan/coupe. It won`t be as quick as the TT, but it will sound awesome, will surely beat a M5 in handling and as i heard it doesn´t look that ugly as many think who are judging it by the camo spy pics.

BUT and a big BUT, I love the look, feel, handling and size of my 6 sp TT. It's not even close in terms of comparison. The m6 felt too big. Almost like a german muscle car. The chassis dynamics were great for that car, but not at all like the TT.

I'm currently modding the TT (headers, exhaust (200 CEL), protomotive tune, HREs) and that should get me a little closer to the aural sensation of the M as well as reduce a little of the turbo lag.

While I really enjoyed the engine, transmission and sound of the big M coupe, the overall package left me missing my previous porsche experience. If I had to choose in the M family, I'd probably take an M3 over the M5/6.

+1 Agreed totally. I had the M6 myself as well. The TT is so much better in terms of handling, and not to mention performance. But me myself is getting bored to the TT. I like to change cars now and then, but from a TT to an M5 - you will REGRET it!

I loved my M5, but I love the TT more.

The other thing to remember is that with exhaust notes you never really get to hear it from inside the car. In addition break-in and total # of miles plays a large part in how your car sounds.

I've had a few TT owners think my car's exhaust isn't stock based on the note. I've put 10K miles on it about 5 months and the sound just gets better and better. I even considered an exhaust and headers setup to get a lil more power, but I actually dont want to change the sound so I decided to hold off.

Best mod you can do in my opinion is suspension. It dramatically changes the look of the car and also separates it more from the "cruiser" category. It makes the car more defined. Add a set of wheels to get a custom feel and you should be all set.

And remember that the exhaust note comes with time. And if you arent sure, have someone else drive your car, drive behind them, and have them hit the throttle all the way to the floor and then see if you still think its not to your liking.

If you want more than aural sounds, that is if you really want a top performer, why dont you add a 700 + hp tuner kit. If that still isnt enough to thrill you AND give you the proper aural sensations then a Bugatti Veyron may be the ticket - budget permitting.

I agree, take your TT to the very least a 600hp kit, the 700hp kit is far more 'thrilling'. And btw the stock TT IS boring.

Honestly, even a ECU and exhaust swap would end your concerns about boredom faster than you can say "Good lord what happened to my car??" The stock TT felt boring to me too (granted, I'm a horsepower junkie) but even stock + protomotive ECU was a whole different car. The way the power hit, the scrabbling for traction, the torque steer in 2nd gear -- the car just felt much much more alive, well beyond what I would expect from a simple ~60HP boost.

And, as noted, you can go up to 700HP pretty easily and without opening up the engine. My girlfriend dubbed the car "The Hooligan Machine" after taking it for a spin at that power level, and the name's apt. It's more fun than a barrel full of monkeys, and I chuckle every time I drive it.

If you want a loud exhaust note (and don't need to worry about emissions) I had great results with the Protomotive exhaust, which had some baffling but was basically a straight-through design. You can hear the turbos spooling up and down from outside the car, and it crackles marvelously under deceleration -- basically, the whole thing sounds like a race car. I eventually swapped it out for a Miltek exhaust, which is near-stock levels of quiet and has cats, but that was because of personal preference. If you want to sound like a race car trapped on the street... it's easily arranged

[quote=TurboTronic;1930860]I

My current situation: I am thinking of getting an M5 with the awesome Meistershaft exhaust either as a replacement to my Porsche, OR in addition to it.

Has anyone gone from a 997TT to an M5? quote]

I bought an M3 to keep my 997tt company with my girlfriend as the primary driver . It gives us two performance cars with some practical aspects with the M car.

I would never sell the Turbo for any BMW UNLESS the car faced theft issues and I wanted a more benign type of car . What i did do was upgrade the car in many phases to bring it to 700 Hp, enhance suspension and aerodynamics , and have it riding on some competition wheels .

BUT --if you get bored I would not recommend modding because it takes time and expense and makes the car worth keeping for a longer time .

I just came from an M5 to a TT this week. M5 is an awesome car though - I really enjoyed it while I had it ( 2.5yrs). Definitely miss the SMG but the main problem I had with the m5 was the constant filling up. Lucky if I got 150 miles on a tank (small tank - big mistake by bmw). Not to mention oil consumption. 1 quart per 500 miles (just within tolerance).

The TT hough is a step above. Ironically - when just cruising - iMO - it drives very similar to a m5. The difference is when you open them up. The m5 feels more like a muscle car with its v10 and the TT - is just sheer power.

I was also disappointed with the TT exhaust note - from the cabin - however, a friend of mine took it for a spin while I was standing on the curb - and it sounded absolutely fantastic when throttled. To the point where I was going to have a mod done to the exhaust and have now cancelled my plans. I am kinda glad its quiet in the cabin though - I use my TT as a daily driver and take the kids to school in it.

I dont think I will be jumping from my TT anytime soon to a m5. But never-the-less an awesome car and is definitely up there on my list.

Sick of it?then give it to me lol.
The M5 would feel like a boat compared to the 911.
I would take one 997 turbo over two M5's!

I still have both and can appreciate the Q from one perspective : they are both awesome cars that everyone should experience, but they are not comparable.

If you want "variety" or "something different" to cure your boredom, then I think you will enjoy the M5. I still love driving the M5. That high strung V10 is very special.

If you are looking to "step up" in sound or power, you will be disappointed and should instead mod your TT.

Lot's of cool cars out there.
