Hi Doug,

Try and find out what the process is like for powder coating in your area (there's different kinds) but to be honest if that's the way you want to go then doing it with HRE in-house is the best since they stand behind it.

Doug,

Nice talking to you last week...Good call sticking with the Black wheel. I would go with the P40s unless you would like to still stick with those C20s we have in stock

I would suggest Champion wheels:

They are lighter, exclusive for Porsche and as a result less common.
We all heard about problems with HRE's, but as anyone ever heard of problem regarding Champion wheels?

That was also part of the problem I had when trying to decide between the P40's & the 171's. To me the P40's looked way too similiar to a factory BMW wheel & imo looks better on Bimmer's then the Turbo. Champion says Porsche, HRE not so much.

Agree with Stradale, Champion if you can get a good deal
The p40s are barely lighter than stock it seems. They look damn good , but everyother guy has 'em these days.

I love the P40's and much of what HRE offers. However, I actually stopped by the Champion shop when i was on vacation in florida. They run a tight ship and really do tons of research to get the right products out. I would speak to Victor and see if he can give you a 6speeder deal, Champions all the way

We have some P40s in stock & ready to go if you're interested.

You can't go wrong with either wheel though!

That's funny, I stopped in to see Victor while I was on vaction in Florida this past February. Bought my 171's & tubi from him. It was those pics of the black Werks1 car. As soon as I saw those pics I was sold on the 171's. Then when I saw them in person painted black! Wooooweee!! Technically the wheels on the Werks1 car are actually MS61's (Magnesium versions) the 171's are slightly nicer shaped imo w/ a deeper dive on the rear wheel.

Do not trust just anyone to Powder Coat your wheels. Excessive cure temperature can seriously degrade the Heat Treating and weaken the forged wheel. Be absolutely certain that the coater has experience with forged aluminum and do not exceed a cure temp of 250 degrees fahrenheit.

My 2 cents. If you're thinking of the black 171's why not get a set of black GT3RS wheels from Porsche. They fit the car perfectly, it's a factory black finish and they have a similar spoke design (same spoke count) to the 171, and they look killer on the turbo.

The black RS wheels look good but they are cast, I want a forged wheel.
