Replace or Plug Tire help please!
I think you know the answer I'm going to say.
I replace the tire . To save a few hundred bucks I can't see risking safety and my the value in my car. Whether plug or patch the tire will never have the same integrity as anew tire . Beyond the peace of mind --I feel its pennies for dollars in a car capable of high speeds to secure the things which you can.
EDIT -- I read your last post. That's good news !!
I did leave my original post for those cases which are not as good as yours turned out.
I am glad for you .

So Larry, I still have a question that maybe you can help me with. When you get a nail or damage a tire when it doesn't have too many miles on it, I don't mind replacing it and that makes sense (although expensive and I'd rather buy a new purse). But to keep REPLACING tires as they get more mileage on them becomes a problem doesn't it - with our cars being all wheel drive. Wouldn't one have to replace all four if say you had 6 or 8k miles on them? Wouldn't it make sense to just do a good plug/patch and then replace the entire set when you really need a new set due to tread wear?
All of my Porsches have faced rear tire wear above the fronts . I have only had one other Turbo (993 turbo 1996) .
I replace one tire if the wear is within a 1000 mile disparity . I replace two if not .
So it's either one rear or both .
Or one front or both .
It is expensive but I have carried this philosophy even onto my Honda . The peace of mind of a new tire trumps a repaired tire with a weak spot even on a cheaper car.
