Dynamic Motoring - Hey Shane you can run but you can't hide
A few years back I ordered a set of wheels for my e46m3 and was hustled by a guy in New Orleans. I paid him via credit card and never, and I mean NEVER, received anything from this guy. I couldn't get in contact with him at all...no emails responded nor phone calls answered.
Anyways, to make a long story short, I paid him a visit with the New Orleans Police Department at his aunt's house a few months later since I got a federal charge against him with internet fraud. And he was arrested and it was the best vacation I had in years!!!

I know this is going to sound like a scolding ... but it's intention is to make you aware of the importance of timing.
1. You posted a pretty hostile e-mail (not saying you're wrong, but you certainly let him know you were gunning for him and gave him notice to protect himself).
2. You listened to his story about family tragedy, yet it couldn't have been too bad as his brother didn't have to attend. (All he did was buy more time to protect himself and possibly cover his tracks and secure his monies, from you and everyone else he's in process with).
3. You've been waiting more than a few days for a follow up to getting a tracking number, only to find out it too is bunk. (More time for him to protect himself, go invisible and prevent monetary loss.)
4. (Here's where you'll feel the pain) ... You have enough time and resources to contact this forum and give us an update in the wake of Hurricane Ike, yet not the time to initiate a chargeback???? If you waste anymore time, you're only facilitating his ability to keep your money. Every hour he gets to protect himself, hide the monies and cover his tracks makes it a better scenario for him.
START THE CHARGEBACK NOW!
I'm sorry if I've offended you, but I'm also trying to re-light the fire that started this thread. But I know how this works and there's a "Bigger Picture" and more at stake here than you are aware of. If you're not deliberate and immediate in action you may find out you're too late to the draw and he's gotten away with all the money.
Again, my intent is only for your best intrest - I hope it motivates you to proceed immediately.

Update
Late last night Shane sent me this update:
"This tracking number is working:
1Z RF1 788 03 3089 848 9
For some reason the other one my brother gave you is not working.
Shane"
I went on UPS and indeed there is a shipment on its way due into Houston on the 19th with a weight of 69 lbs (4 wheels and tires + packaging materials which sounds about right). I'm holding my breath to see what that shipment contains and in what condition. Perhaps the story will end there or perhaps it will unfortunately continue. I'm betting positively as you are by now you are all aware.
I started this thread because I had no other means of communicating with Shane and unsure whether or not I was being scammed. I did so with the intentions listed in my original post which were to see if "1) I can't get Shane to respond and complete the transaction and/or 2), make sure no one else on this board ends up getting screwed as well." It seems like I'm making progress towards 1) (we'll see but getting more hopeful) and have more than certainly accomplished 2).
I have some recommendations relating to the board which I'll post as an epilogue which I think are fairly self evident but will do so when the story is complete.
The wheels are to be shipped to my local tuning shop and I'm not sure what state his shop is in since the Hurricane, and believe me guys the damage to the Houston area is very extensive
. I relocated my family yesterday to my apartment in Austin as power phones, internet connectivity, etc. aren't due back on line for a few days at best and a few weeks at worst. And yes I do now have other priorities like the several thousands of dollars in tree damage, fence repairs, pool re start etc. So please be patient on the updates. While the wheels are important to me, I have been given other priorities to consider at this time and am working several fronts.
Thanks
OT

69lbs total? Umm you are not getting 4 tires and rims plus packing material for that weight. No way.
Each tire is roughly 25-30 lbs alone. 4 rims being 23/26 lbs and you can see that each package should be about 70 lbs. Is that what you meant?
I checked the UPS and its ONE package only. You are not getting what you thought you were getting I can say that much. So he shipped them out yesterday?
What are you expecting in the package? Either way - 4 rims or 4 tires should come in either 4 boxes - which I would assume would be the right way to pack it and make sure its not freight and 4 tires are generally wrapped with the two front together and the two rears together. If they are to be mounted and balanced then you are really in trouble.

You're right I'm checking to see if that isn't a typo and should read either 190 lbs or 4 packages.
Fish smells from the head down..and this one stinks really bad.
hard knocks
I think we all are on the same page that we hope you get your wheels, or your money back; and of course we wish you the best as it relates to your issues from the storms....but...man, i must be crazy but for the life of me, i have no idea why you didnt just make a 90second call to your credit card company, initiate a charge back. Let THEM do the dirty work, most credit card companies are awsome at doing that. You produce a few emails, a few posts...he loses. an almost certainty. i've been screwed around time to time by vendors and that is why i use amex, mc or visa. They are there to protect their customers from thieving vendors. After all, you're busy with your cleanup and relocation, why waste any time on something so insignificant as a set of wheels???
After all, thi sisnt some high quality vendor where perhaps there exists a miscommunication or misunderstanding. unless i read this thread wrong, this is a dude who seemingly is a sneaky bastage and this isnt the first time he's done this. And, SaintlySin, a senior executive at a credit card company (not sure who would have any greater knowledge of the whole process) said to the same...charge back immediate!!
now the cheat has sent a box, probably 60 lbs of pennies, and will claim he sent the box, "look, here's my UPS receipt of shipping; the buyer/recipient is lying".
what if you get them and they are damaged, scuffed, or lacking warranty>? you think that ******* is going to stand behind his , ehem ehem , reputation?
just doesnt make sense dude. all this drama for a set of wheels that any good quality supplier could have provided. ..
i gues this is a lesson for all of us....someone screws around with you, just do a cahrge back and let them sweat it.
anyway, good luck. if they dont show up as expected, ensure your car shop turns them away immediate!! dont let them receive them, sign for them, let the ups guy leave without the box if it dont check out.

he contected me the same way via PMs.... i basically told him it sounded to good to be true .... and let my 6th sense kick in from there..... sorry about the deal you aare going through!
Dynamic Motoring contacted me via PM trying to sell me a Switzer exhaust and Switzer headers. IT started the same way, by him telling me that he liked my car, blah, blah, blah...
To the OP, I understand you are very busy with Ike cleanup, but make the call to your CC company and charge back the wheels ASAP. I'm sure there is a time limit on doing this, and you don't want to get screwed out of $8,000...
Good luck!!
