Ok This Sounds Crazy But I......

...am trying to unload my 07tt and replace it with a 996 tt and get a bang for the buck. My dear friend Dr Jim is trying to sell his 996 red turbo which i know for a fact is a well kept car and will CERTAINLY with all the mods give me a similar ride with power, etc as my tt. I would seriously consider buying his car but would want to paint it black since i want blk and not a fan of red......the deal would be so smooth but i need feedback on what will be the downside, long term of painting the car, esp for resale in 3-5 yrs.........i am serious here

What about your 997 do you not like that a 996 has? Anything can be modded, so what is it about the car itself?

I love my 997 but looking to keep down some costs and still drive a modded 996 for much less money

Is it really worth the trouble for $30k? You will be taking a big hit on the 997 and then you want to dump more money into a 996 that is dropping like a rock. It seems you might be better off just keeping what you have because in the end it doesn't seem like you will be saving all that much and creating more of a headache for yourself.

What are you doing ?

Getting rid of your 997tt to buy and paint a 996tt is almost certifiably irrational IMO.

In fact , after you paint the 996tt you will lose even more money than had you kept your car as resale on the 996tt will plummet.

After you repaint the entire car the resale will be dead unless its to someone else who knows you personally.

However, you could look into skinwrapz if you wanted to go with a different color that wont affect your resale. Also cost you less than a professional repaint of the entire car.

Personally though I wouldn't trade into a 996 even if its modded. If you are looking for power there are other alternatives, but the 996 isnt going to stop depreciating.

The only thing that makes sense to me in this case would be looking into a 993tt.

Painting it a different color is resale suicide, Bill. I would sell the 997tt, wait 6 months and re-evaluate your situation. You are sounding very irrational here, how could taking a major hit on the (better) 997tt, turning around and buying a modded 996tt cure your financial woes? When the smoke clears, I'd be surprised if you saved 300$ a month, maybe. You'd be better off changing something in your practice to realize more income, (jahco certification for facility fees, dropping plans, etc), I think you need to stop and think this through.

Instead of painting the car why don't you just wrap it. That way when you resell the car you can peel it and still have factory paint.

i would not paint it. cars are always worth substantially more with the original paint. this is your chance to have an affair with a redhead and then get rid of her without any strings attached!

i couldn't agree with chris more. if it is a financial issue, just sell the 997tt and take the money or decreased debt and wait it out. the entire thought about the 996tt and your plan makes no sense. i hope all works out well.

I posted the other board. Glad you are keeping it. Now drive it. I do not want to see another 3K mileage car for sale. We are already taking a loss on it why not enjoy it!!

Get out and drive people.

If you want a black 996 then don't buy your friends red one. To buy it then paint it black just sounds a lill silly and a waste of money. Either keep your 997 instead of investing money into a car that's depreciating dramatically or sell your 997 and get a black 996 and don't poor money into it.
