997 Turbo break-in question
I was told by several that you should not exceed 40% boost or 5k until 200 miles, and then not exceed 60% boost until 500 miles. From that point on there is nothing to be concerned about. If you redline in the break in period and there is a problem even if it was caused by a defected part (how else would it have been) then Porsche has the right to deny warranty. All new cars are delivered with specific break-in guidelines from the factory and to be safe they should be followed regardless of any ones opinion. I have yet to hear of a failure on a new Turbo, so the choice is yours.
I know the old Turbo's were bench tested for several hundred miles before manufacturing began, I do not know if that is still the case today.
