Read a few postings below what you quoted to see my explanation. There are many reasons why a car can be for sale and reliability doesn't have to be one of them. I think there's a thread somewhere on Switzer's work. That should explain things a bit better than I.

The car is listed in the for sale section with less than 1K miles . That's reliability "proof " ? How can you even draw a conclusion in either direction ?<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message --> <!-- controls -->
i don't think that's the way u should judge !
it was tested 800 miles yes but all 800 miles was very tough and ruff tests i believe , Drags and Dino Runs and almost no issues they faced ... !

I am not judging --that's my point!
I am not saying that it IS reliable NOR am I saying that it isn't .

I am saying that 900 miles is not much of reliability measure on ANY car .

In short --NOT enough infomation to make a positive or a negative assertion.

I see your point yrralis, but what would you consider a criteria for reliability then?

More than a one car sample and 900 miles .
In fairness though it really may be a great car . It's just that it takes a lot for me to be convinced that something is great or bad .

I'm ok with simply saying --"I don't know" .

Dont worry, there will be another Sledgehammer car done soon enough. Mine. I will be putting more than 900 miles on the car.

The amount of miles really doesnt prove anything as it depends on how hard the car is driven and what fuel/boost level you are running. You can put 50k highway miles on a 1000hp car without ever really getting into the throttle and putting the stress on the engine. David's Sledgehammer has been through the ringer, tons of dyno pulls, dragstrip passes, Vbox test runs, Texas mile etc. It has seen more full boost runs in 900 miles than most modded cars would see in 20k miles. David loves the car and Sledgehammer package, he is only trying to sell it so he can do the same package on his 997 GT2.

I am one of the few people lucky enough to drive the SPI Sledgehammer and I can attest to it's abilities. It is amazingly quick and the clutch setup makes it easy to hit shifts perfectly under hard acceleration. Tym Switzer is a top notch guy as well, great to deal with, and really keeps you up to speed on what's going on with your projects. I trust him explicitly with my cars. He currently has my SLR and is putting the Renntech stuff on it. My 997TT tip car has the SPI 750 kit, and the package is phenomenal. 0-60 in 2.4 seconds, 0-100mph in 5.9 seconds, 60-130mph in 6.55 seconds, all obtained with my Vbox. I also ran 10.66 @132.65mph at the strip in less than ideal conditions and it was my first time ever at a strip. I believe the car has 10.4 in it.

Keep in mind that "reliability" is a term describing repeatability with use over time. Since probability is fused into the definition there is also a component of estimation .

How one determines what he's comfotable with is up to the individual and if that confidence leads to a 1000 Hp car I find it creative and exciting .

I wish you well with your car.

I agree with you 100%.

Keep in mind that the Sledgehammer isnt just some bolt on kit pushing a lot of boost. Tym has done his research as well as looked at the engine internals and decided they were definitely able to handle the power. The torque is also relatively low in the Sledgehammer package (700 rwtq) which is the real limiting factor of the engine, not so much HP (860rwhp). Tym has put in lots of safeguards to monitor as well as protect the engine and the rest of the car.

For most people, 1000 hp at the crank in a 997TT is huge overkill. For the less crazy, I recommend the SPI 750 hp (600rwhp) modified VGT package. The turbos spool extremely quick, and it really makes the car a lot of fun. Its less than half the price of the Sledgehammer package, and the turn around time is much quicker. Mated with a Tip, the car is practically unbeatable from a stop up to 100mph. The perfect street light crusher.

Aaron,
Good to hear from the horses mouth (no harm meant). I have taken a short ride in his so called "junior sledgehammer" and it is more car than 99% of us, including me, could ever see 9/10ths of the limit. By the way how's the lambo coming?

Hey Tim, hope you had a good holiday. I was over at your store a few days ago checking it out while we were waiting on Laura's Verizon phone.

The TT Gallardo has been coming along slowly unfortunately. There are a couple more hurdles to overcome and the car should be totally transformed when I get it back. I am hoping just another week or two until it's ready to come back to me. It's looking like 800 rwhp on pump gas and 1000rwhp on MS109 fuel is a strong possibility. 1100rwhp is possible on C16, but we will see how things go with the MS109 for a while first. With the new progressive boost control, new quieter exhaust (still loud, its a Lambo!), new tires, upgraded halfshafts, upgraded turbos, improved egear shifting and more power, the car should be a totally different animal. It was putting down 750rwhp on pump and 875rwhp on race before.

Aaron
