The dealers have not gotten official word for a Turbo with a PDK or even of 2010 turbo period. So any sales man who tells you he knows when they are coming out is full of it, they're guessing at best. Get the tip 997 cab. If the facelift 997T is anything like the first it will be several months after the coupe that we see cabs become available. The words 997 Turbo S have leaked out on some Porsche documents just as food for thought tho...

Get the Tip Cab you won't be let down.

I didn't say someone is offering $25K off. Here's what I said:
"I see Pioneer is discounting certain 997's at $20K so thought with the leftover Turbo's in Tip, there's a chance to get as much as $25K off. "
Check Pioneer Porsche in San Diego's website for the $20K off, and if a reg. Carrera can be had for $20K, then would it not be possible to get $25K off on a Turbo Tip that's "going out of style"??? Then a brand new Turbo can be had for $120ish???

The "120 ish" is close on an 08 leftover . Keep in mind the options can vary tremendously . MSRP can be anywhere from 140 to 170 .

WTF
1) In past Turbo history there has not been a facelift . This would be the first.
2) In past Turbo history an "S" model did come out but that is not a facelift.
3) In current "facelift: Porsche example we have the 997 and 997S . The ENTIRE coupe , cab, C4S , Targa -- all are relased simultaneously .

In one sentence you state that there is "no official word" then you insert reasoning to justify a 120+K purchase based on fabricating one?

Ordinary contradictions I usually ignore but this one is way over the top (IMO) .

The best I was able to determine was that PDK will not be on the GT1 engine block (dry sump), but on the new block with DFI (pseudo dry). If this is true, then the block and transmission will not be as strong (ie modifiable) as the outgoing engine/tranny. That said, it is likely to be quite a bit faster in stock form.

Guys, Porsche is trying to figure out what they can do just to get through this market down turn. Words like trust me, never belong in an internet thread/post, but I can assure you that production is going to be slashed again, it is the only way Porsche can control the sliding values. So my bet that is on the record now is that there will not be a Turbo or Turbo S next year. There just wont be any Turbo's at all. Sounds crazy right? It gives Porsche 12 more months to get rid of 08 and 09 inventory and then they can offer the Turbo S and get rid of the left over motors. You will not see a PDK Turbo until 2011.
If the top 10 dealers in the USA each got 4 Turbo coupes for 09, it doesn't take a genius to figure out the answer to this is no cars for 2010.
If that happens the values will come back to MSRP, if not, we will all be getting Pcars for 10k off MSRP from this day forward.

Sorry it was kinda late and I was Tired:
1: You're right, never been a facelift, what I meant was when the 997 Turbo coupe came out it was a few months before cabs showed up at the dealers.
2: I did not say a turbo S would be a facelift, and yes previous "S" models weren't either.
3: You're right. I assume that may not be true if they updated the turbo, i.e. new head lamps, tail lamps, side mirrors... like the 997.2 Carrera. That's me assuming.

Either way with sales down so much, who knows....
All things aside, as I said there is still no word on a PDK Turbo...
Sorry for the contradictions.

I totally agree with this, however there is nothing wrong with the tip. I test drove the PDK and am not totally sold on it.

It has take up like a clutch and does not handle parking lot maneuvers as well as a true auto box. Yes it is great out on the road, however turbo car has so much torque available, it has no need for more than 5 gears. I feel that everyone will be claiming that the PDK turbo is the greatest car ever, however I feel some of this is the excitment of somthing new and maybe a little better.

Side by side I would get the PDK for road work. Based on what I think you are saying, you may be just as satisfied, if you can stay away from all the hipe, with the tip.

You simply can NOT drive it up and down the block, or even for an entire day, and understand what it can do. When driven in sport mode (it is the first button I hit after starting the car unless there is snow on the ground) AND in manual mode the car performs viscerally and emotionally like a typical 6 speed. I know, as my prior TT was an 03 X50 manual that I owned for 3 years and put almost 30K miles on her. When driven in auto mode, with the sport button on, the transmission IS lazy compared to the manual mode or the traditional 6 speed, that is 95% of the time when your not hammering the car. However, if you have the capability to really drive the car hard (ie. at the track, a DRE event or even fooling around on the street) the auto tranny comes alive - it will hold the gear for a LONG time (approx. 8 seconds) and is an extremely quick natural shifter. For my one DRE I did last year I was in auto mode so I didn't have to shift. I was faster than the GT3's in my run group. If your tooling around town (not on the freeway) its fun to be in manual mode as you have control of the engine revs and the car does make more noise. On the freeway just stick it in auto. If you have zero traffic (unlike NYC which is a freaking misery - my misery) I'd say go for a 6 speed. However, if you do hit traffic and the occasional open road, I'd opt for the "boring" tip, You can live with a tip for 3 or 4 years and then switch to PDK. Also please don't let the manual crowd tell you that your tip is slower than a manual blah blah blah. That is pure unadulterated horsesh..t. I guarantee you that unless your adversary is a modded something or other or a big block superbike, your tip TT will NEVER leave you feeling embarrassed.

Once you get the filing of when to use the shifters on steering wheel you well love it, also they are software programs available to improve the tip transitions .

I'd like to thank the sage advise from alwek and tortesq1. The Tip in Sport mode is indeed very sweet and I can't wait for EvOM's TCU tweek.
BTW I also would like to thank Tom at Lucent for installing CG springs, alignment and doing a nose job the TT. Plastic surgeon Tom.

Car handles much better but the ride is about the same as before. Not too low but taking driveways and approaches at an angle is a must.

And here's a shot of the nose job. BTW this has got to be the cheapest part I've ever purchased for my Porsches, it is too low for me to list but if you are in the Socal area and are thinking of doing the nose job, by all means give Lucent a call, you'll be surpirsed by how inexpensive it is. I've seen other nose jobs with bumps and crocked but Tom did an excellent job here.

I'm very happy with my tip trans. I did up change steering wheel to a FVD wheel with paddle shifters. I didn't care for the OE wheel with push buttons.

Have you driven a Turbo in Sport mode using the buttons to shift? If not, go drive one first. And this setup is great for the street and canyon carving and don't forget mine is a CAB and will never will see the track as I have other cars for that. Actually my white EVO X with about the same power of an '09 C2S has the twin clutch and yes it is the future of transmission and it was so good that after one month of driving it, I sold the Ferrari Challenge Stradale with the F1 trans which seems so old school and clunky around town. So with enough experience of a twin clutch and after testing driving the Tip, I went ahead with the purchase and I am glad to say the Tip suits the car perfectly and I also won't have to worry about how it will hold up if I were to mod the car.
