Researching GT2 Steering Rack for 997TT

I was looking at the new 997 GT2 brochure and saw that they have installed a closer ratio rack than what is in the 996 GT2 (2.62 vs. 2.98 for the 996 GT2).

I know that the 996TT rack is a closer ratio than the one in the 997TT. I wonder if the 996 GT2 has a closer ratio than the 996 TT, meaning that it would be even a closer ratio than from a 996TT to a 997TT.

We put the car up on the rack today to see if there would be any clearance issues with the front drive components but it seems that it's not an issue. We're in contact with a Porsche parts manager to look into all this.

Anyone have any knowledge regarding this?

I just ordered the 2008 rack for the GT2. It's a direct bolt on deal. Price $1450.00.

Very interesting report.
What is the benifit of having the GT2 rack and how does it work with the AWD system?
Do you have a part number? is it Vin matched?

I believe he is looking for a faster steering response... I find mine fast enough though...

Yes. I'm looking forward to a snappier steering response.

I don't have the part number but there are two or three. I think the last two digits refer to the model year ('07 or '08).

It's not VIN matched as far as getting one different than the one that came with the car.

I'm also having GT3 monoball top strut caps front and rear installed. I'll try to take some comparison pictures. (Stock vs. GT3). The GT2 ones were not of a monoball configuration so I opted for the GT3 ones.

Very cool mod!

While on the subject of GT2 parts, the front would be a huge improvement over the Turbo front bumper.

Interestingly, I was at Thunderhill the other weekend and had a motel room right in the middle of two parking spaces where I parked my TT, and next to it, a new GT2. I looked at the front bumpers at street level back and forth, and again from my second floor room just above. I feel that the GT3 front is the way to go.

Somehow the GT2 front is just not as nice as the GT3's and the Turbo is lacking something design-wise. In the end I preferred the stock front to the GT2. I also like the fact that it's a more 'quiet' look which I like.

I like most of the back of the GT2 though, particularly the exhaust pipe treatment. I think the lower slits are too much for my taste.
