buy two new tires and move on.
I hear you about the whining...no one likes a whiner. I did wine about the cost of owership with a delicious bottle of Amarone, however.

As the OP, my question was whether a plug (or patch) was sufficient. Just because I can afford to cut a check and to buy the car outright, it does not mean that I'll blindly spend money on the car when it's not necessary.

Based on the feedback, I chose to go with 2 new tires.

RT-TURBO is infamous around these parts
I think there are several issues that may have been overlooked here. What if , just what if you lose the repaired tire at speed could you damage a 1k plus rim? or say the tire grenades and comes apart and does damge to the fenderwell/ fender? Pretty scary odds? Just bit the bullet get the new tire then your attention will be on the road not concentrating "is this the time that tires going to go?" A few hunders vs a few thousand not a hard choice for me. Oh but wait go to the tire shop and remove the tack , it may not even leak!!!!!!!!!

There is no discussion, Z rated tires, soft tires, high performance tires, too much power to the wheels, heavy rear end = no patch, end of story.
I am glad you decided to go with new tires, good luck and stay safe.
