BMC Air Filter, Need help please
Im in dusty Los Angeles and at 10k I replaced the paper filter. I tore the sponge cover off to check out the state of the paper and it was pretty clean still.
In the UK (I grew up in Burton-on-Trent myself) I would maybe clean it at 20k intervals or replace it outright instead of risking over oiling it.

Honestly, I do feel a difference. now with more air in, the rpm's are climbing faster and easier, the car just is breathing better period. more power needs cooler, more air I wish i have a way to do a dyno comparison, maybe the next time I hit Gilbert AZ I will
But again, the car has a ton of power, you feel them a lot after 5400rpm too. I have to run it a bit more and will see.

No it won't
Very few waters will get into the airbox and the filter is standing back not flat on,so there is really no chance to suck water into the filter.Even it suck a bit,it is a long way from the intake tube to the turbo inlet.Heat will dry it through the way.Nothing to worry about really.

You may be correct about water coming in the air intakes not getting to the engine inlets (supposedly this water can drain off), but the water sure comes in the fan intake onto the fan belts causing squeaks and screwing up pulleys. Cannot believe Porsche doesn't have some kind of screen to help deflect the water from pouring on the engine in hard rains. Just makes no sense, but I guess porsche has been doing this for years. I know of no other vehicle that water is allowed to pour into the engine department.
My Evo would let water in, big hole in the hood for heat to get away from the turbo.
I've found water in the TT airbox after washing but it wont get through the foam / filter filter. I dry the engine bay off after each wash - dont drive it in rain - and the belt might squeak for a second of two.

That's too much work!
but it works.
Water does drain out of the airbox but it also collect & wet the bottom of the filter depend on the incline of the car. I wash my car yesterday and check the intake box right after i hose the rear down and found lots of water inside the intake box.
When car is moving water doesn't get in the box, but when you stop water drain directly into it. The factory paper filter can soak the water better than the reusable one. Next time you wash your car place a dry towel inside the airbox directly below the open and you will see it soakin wet after you wash your car

Good idea. I need to wash my car bad! If you guys see it now you will hate me.
Thread revival!
Lots of speculation, 'improved intake sounds', and butt-dyno'ing. But what real gains (if any) does the BMC filter provide? Seems to be an integral part of a number of aftermarket power packages. Is it really necessary or just another item to throw onto the invoice?
I used them on my M5, and honestly, I tried real hard to convince myself there was a difference. Are the gains any different for a NA vs FI car?
Yeah, it's 'only' $200, but that's $$$ that can go to something else.
