il nino is infamous around these partsil nino is infamous around these parts
I had an 89 930 with mods and put more than 70,000 aggressive miles on it and it was without a doubt the most fun car I have ever had. My next car was a 993 turbo that I had for about 5 years and put about 45000 miles on it and it was a lot of fun and more civilized than the 930 but it felt very archaic ergonomically and although it didn't have much turbo lag, it also did not have any torque.
I now have an 08 Turbo and the torque makes it so much more comfortable to drive. It definitely lacks some of the raw feeling but the plusses are so much greater than the negatives that I could never think of going back.
Another big problem was the cost of maintenance. As an 11 year old car, it was in for a lot of very expensive service. I must have spent about 15K the last two years I had it.
Sometimes we become too 'romantic' about old vehicles and it overpowers our common sense. I couldn't think of ever not having my 997.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

The power in the TT isn't lacking, but suspension could definitely use some work, it will certainly go a longer way to giving you that raw feeling, more so than adding a few more ponies.

993TTs are cool, without a doubt, I almost bought one a dozen times. However, the cost of maintenance is astronomical, they all eventually need the top end done, suspension usually needs replacing in short order as well, etc. As sweet as they are, they are still 12 yrs old. As a toy, yes, as a DD, no.
