HIDs for High beam?

I ran a search and found results only for fogs.

I've been thinking about converting my highbeams to true HIDs. Is this as simple as matching the bulb size to an HID kit and wiring up the ballasts?

Yes, easy install. Bad thing is the HID when ignited takes a few seconds to work so by the time you turn them on to see the road ahead or deer cross your path it will be too late.

On saying that the factory bixenon works fantastic, essentially you already have HID high beams. The H11 bulb in there is a 'flash to pass' bulb more than it is a high beam bulb, the factory HID system overpowers it. At night your lamps are obviously on already so the projector changes the vertical angle to increase light throw.

If you still go this route make sure you get a D2R H11 kit, the shielded type. Otherwise the light will be poorly aimed and they will work worse. D2S H11 is unshielded and will throw light the wrong way and scatter causing massive glare.

I'm willing to forgo the flash to pass; I live in SLC and people get egos when you try to question their reasoning in driving a minivan at 55 mph in the left lane.

I'll be looking into that kit. I assume everything will be plug and play? I'm not willing to shim/dremel down any factory parts on my car, or cut factory harnesses. Also, the differences in voltage/amperage draw won't trip a warning light?

You will get an error code when it ignites, as for install I think most good kits are plug in but some times you need to rig a decent connector to the H11 plug for power.

I would run the ballast direct to the battery via a harness myself, all nicely fused so you dont draw more current through the porsche wiring than designed for, after a while that might fry and your talking 2-3k to repair the harness. a good kit should come with a harness.
