I have a 2007 997 Turbo, standard brakes, non-LSD car, 6speed manual. I purchased a set of AVUS aftermarket forged wheels (19inch). They came mounted with Toyo tires 235/35/19 front, and 315/25/19 rear. As soon as they were mounted and balanced (and wheel alignment!), I kept on getting an warning from the computer of "PTM too hot, temporarily inactive" My dealership did a full diagnostic test of car, and told me that its due to the tires not being stock size (well at least the front ones are). As soon as I put back the stock wheels/tires, the PTM warning was resolved. Problem is, they told me they are unable to mount a stock rear tire, because the rims are too wide.


Any thoughts/help with my situation ? I really like the look of these wheels, anyone else run into this problem, and have a solution ?

This issue has been posted before. The rolling diameters of the 315's are too far off from stock. You're gonna destroy (if you already haven't) your differential. Change back to stock immediately or get tires that are within 3% rolling diameter of stock.

if rear wheel sze is 19 x 11.5 you can mount stock tires 305/30/19

 

Oooooh, good thread and great link to the other thread. I had no idea about maintaining the ratios of sizes too. Now my head is hurting because it's filling up with useful info...time for a beer.

 

I apologize in advance if I'm not understanding this correctly, you can use 315's in the rear only if you use wider tires up front also???

 

The issue isn't tire width. It's tire height. You must maintain the proper OE Porsche speed relationship front-to-rear or you will trigger computer intervention and possible drivetrain damage.
