Air filter question

When I got my first 996TT in 2000, I was told that a K&N Air filter would give + 15 -17 HP. Now I have read somewhere for the 997 the stock air filter would be perfect; an after market filter would be a waist of money. I don't want to change the housing but what is with the filter itself??

Please can somebody help here???

THX

handdoc is infamous around these parts
all a matter of preference

the stock box has been tested to handle up to 700hp fine

issue with it is unequal air flow, the pass side has a narrower opening

a bmc filter will improve airflow, or an aftermarket closed box system will even the airflow

either is fine
