Great story, I remember seeing George Brett in a red slatnose circa '79, I was hooked too!
Go for it, the later cars will still have warranty and better gizmos.

Owning a Porsche has been a dream of mine since I was 5 years old building and playing with 911 model cars. I had a TCR race track (you guys know what that is right) and would race my 911 and 935 cars all day long.

Finally had a blessing and bought one 997 TT in 08 and swear to you I'm that 5 year old kid all over again.

I've got an 02 M3 that I really like a lot. Until today it was my favorite car ever. But today the truck came and dropped off an '08 Turbo at my house. After driving it for only one day I can tell you that it is surprisingly a lot more fun to drive than the M3. The power, of course, you expect but the feel of it and the promise (I haven't owned it long enough to find out) of the handling is outstanding. The ride is firm but not at all harsh. I know lots of owners get the exhaust changed but it sounds GOOD to me stock. And fit and finish is tops. I can't wait to wash, clean and wax.

Coming from an M6 owner, I also am making the change over to the 997 Turbo. And I was ///M faithful!

Can the TT be a decent daily driver though?
The M3 had been lots of fun and pleasure to drive each day, except for when it snowed.

Thanks Gentlemen for all your comments, I have made up my mind and now to find the car. Friday morning going to dealership to investigate the 2007 Guards Red, 6 speed, CPO with 6000 miles. If we can work a deal on my 2006 M3 I will be driving home with my first Porsche. I will keep you all posted. Adios

GT, they won't let me PM you because I'm too much of a rookie here. But my car is loaded with stuff, especially in the interior (deviated color, deviated stitching, crests, painted seat backds, etc.). It's got some "must haves" as well--locking rear, sports chrono, and adaptive sorts seats. I'ts an '08 with 6,000+ miles and I paid $98k.

This is exactly the thread I've been looking for, I am in the same boat as OP. But I am interested in a lower mile 911, possibly going for an 08.

BTW are you keeping your M3 or selling it, as I haven't decided yet.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "lower mile M3". Mine is an '02 with 49,000+ miles. I had planned on keepoing it until spring bu that depends.

Ah, I edited my post... But I dont care about miles on my M3 anymore. If I get the 997tt it will prob be sold or kept as my dd. Still a few months down the road.

Yeah, I'm thinking that I could put some winter tires on the stock wheels (I've got some after market 19s mounted on summer tires now) and then the M3 would be an all weather DD. My wife has other ideas........
