Anyone who had both tiptronic and manual
Anyone who had both tiptronic and manual
I read tons of posts here comparing the two but I would love to hear views from folks who had day to day experience with both transmission. I have only test driven the tiptronic but I was with the salesperson so I couldn't really do much. I have yet to test drive the manual - will do that this weekend.
I don't track and about the most excitement I would have would be red light to red light accerleration on the streets.
This is my weekend car but would prefer the convenience of auto. PDK would be perfect for me but above my budget.
Thanks

ive driven both (and sold both)
the tiptronic is a really solid transmission, and shifts pretty quick for being what it is
for a nice weekend car, a tiptronic turbo is excellent... maybe an ecu mod and an exhaust, you'll be very happy
but keep in mind, a lot of exhausts for the tip tend to drone a bit more...

Thanks Steve - this will def be a weekend car. I test drove it and without getting on it and without the sport mode (2nd gear start) the car felt "dull" I am sure it's very different under sport mode.
The dilemma I have is I found a perfect car with very low miles in manual but it's private owner so no CPO. I found equally nice car from a dealer (CPO) but it's auto and has interior color I am not a big fan of. Both are similarly priced. Both are 2008.

Hello sbkim. I have had manuals in my older porsches, but in my 08 M3 and 07 tt I have the auto's. It is also my weekend/track toy and as I get older I am really enjoying the flexability of these auto boxes. You will love the redlight to redlight run, just hold the brake and spool up the turbos and you will get lightheaded. At the track when left in sport/auto mode the trans works darn good on the turbo and when driving it is fun to play with the toggle shifters. Then there is the rest of the time we are going places that you just put it in gear and go, I love the automatics. My M3 dct had trans problems and I am waiting to see how well the new pdk lives in the new turbo ( i hope well so I can get one ). I think you would be well served with the tip.
