ppi from a distance - what to ask???
Interesting discussion re: PPI with the dealer and broker. The dealer wasn't keen on
sending the car out to the nearby dealer without large deposit from me. I would've done it but then was given the other option of having the local Porsche dealer send out a tech to the selling dealer to hook up to the odbII slot and read the ecu, and to
do an inspection. They charged me 400 bucks for this but I guess it saved some
hassle. I was surprised to learn that none of the local dealers have a paint meter, and I even spoke to someone in the body shop at one of the dealers!
I'll call the guy while he's doing the inspection. I'm still debating whether to go down and check out the car myself even if it passes the inspection by a Porsche Master tech. Thoughts? It's not a money issue, it's more of a time issue - I just don't have the time in the next couple of weeks.

I just spoke to the dealer that did my PPI - sight unseen, as well. Just talking to the guy put me at ease with respect to the quality of the car. Based on the report, but mostly the feeling you get by dealing with all parties involved, you should know whether spending $1000 on a plane ticket is worth the peace of mind.
Completely agree that talking to someone with an independant but professional opinion about the car should go a long way to putting us at ease.
Also agree on "the feeling" you get from dealing with all parties. I would say a level of trust certainly develops as you talk and learn things about the car/seller. If it doesn't or if you get the wrong vibe, most of us pull the plug for sure.
I'll be talking to my tech tomorrow AM.

JT,
you indicated that you're planning to drive yours home...does that mean you'll have
to pay the sales tax in California?
I'll eagerly await my tech's report tomorrow AM too.

Edit: I just noticed it is going to Canada, so I have no idea what is involved.
