downshifting to 1st?

So i have a 997.1 turbo 6speed, and i was wondering...is it bad to rev-match downshift to 1st gear?

I have never done it because it seems like it is really bad for the car, and ive read somethings regarding the syncros or something of that nature...

Basically anyone care to fill me in?

I only ever downshift to first under 9 mph and it doesnt jerk, and is pretty smooth.

However i see these automated clutch transmissions (SMG, E-gear, f1, pdk, etc.) all being able to go to first. So please someone help me out lol.

If you rev match, no problem. However, 1st is pretty low geared so you don't want to be going much more than 30-35 mph going into first otherwise you'll be at pretty high rpm.

The car has enough grunt that after you start, and stay, moving you shouldn't really ever need 1st.

BostonRocket is infamous around these parts
I don't think most people downshift to 1st on the move, even if rev-matched. 2nd gear down to as low as 5-7mph is a non-issue in this car.

I did it once, and the shifter didn't like it very much.

i feel the same, 2nd is probably that i'll downshift and revmatch to, 1st doesn't seem to like it much.

Slightly off topic but do any of you have trouble shifting into 1st from 2nd while going really slow (say under 15mph)?

Not me, but I have been told that shifting at 3k rpm and above is easier and better. In fact if I am in slowish traffic I will often get out first once the car is really rolling, say about 15mph. I'll move along in 2nd down to about 1200-1300 rpm.
