Thanks Bob. I'll have to save this for later. I'm at 12k miles so it won't be much longer before I have to consider new plugs.

What's the disadvantage for going with colder plugs?

I forgot to ask if you were happy because they seemed to perform better or just that you didn't see any worse performance over stock?

What made you switch to a colder plug in the first place?

Funny, just had to do the plugs in my 997 Turbo as well.. Car was 100% fine then i changed exhaust.. 1st time i stepped on the car I thought " WTF traction control in 3rd gear I must have picked up some power ".. LOL

So i turned off the traction control and hit it again and same thing.. Thats when i realized now with the cats out the boost was coming up and the plugs were dead..

Changed plugs out for 8 heat range Denso Platinum, issues resolved.. Part throttle is even much cleaner.. Now next week time for a little retune and with the tighter gap, colder heat range and fresh plugs maybe some more boost too..

In doing some research on the subject of plugs it appears that iridium plugs may be better than platinum plugs.

Anyone care to weigh in on this?

I had the same bucking issues too- usually incorporated with modded cars. I had 14k miles and Betim and BBI did the plug swap... I definitely got a SOTP HP gain

Plus I didnt have to pay the dealer labor time associated with it.

I like to use iridium on all motor setups but not on boost if possible.. I have seen too many failures on high boosted applications.. Probably from the heat associated..

I tried the iridium plugs and my car did not like it at all. Misfiring like crazy! You don't want to do 4+ hours of labor twice.

Yes you have to be very careful when you gap them and you cant use a standard feeler.. It has to be a wire type feeler.. simple to use platinum plugs.. All you want to do is make sure it doesnt misfire.. trying to make 5hp with plugs in a turbo car isnt the smartest.. You can make 3hp with .005bar of boost more.. LOL

edit, thanks for the quick pm reply
Did you remove the turbos when you changed the plugs or did you just pull the rear bumper and take the intercoolers out? I am hoping to be able to do this with out taking out the turbos.

McKenna charges the least compared to other dealerships but a dealership should charge $400 for the job.

We change a lotos plugs out on the 997 turbos. We often find cracked coils too so we swap those out as well at the same time.

We are in Los Angeles and we always have the parts in stock so their is no delay when we service your vehicle.

If you have a modified car and are still on your original plugs you can definitely benefit from changing them out.

Best pricing, quickest turn-around and we can provide you with a before and after dyno run so you can see the difference.
