How much turbo lag is normal in a 997TT 2007 Tip
Hey guys, I have a 2007 TT tip. It seems like the car is really slugish from a dead stop even in 1st gear. I almost feel like a 6 cyl mustang could beat me off the line 0-15mph. The car seems to sit in that magic 2-3k rpm range for a bit before it can pull through. Not sure if it's just a bit of turbo lag or possiibly the vario cam is having trouble at lower rpms. It's also possible that i am just getting used to the car? One of the cam shafts was replaced in the car due to CEL regarding overadvanced cam but that was 10k miles ago. It happens at higher speeds but still w/ lower rpms too I suppose, sometimes it's almost scary because i feel like there not much power at all below 3000 rpms. When it gets up past 4k or so and the boost it built up it does take off like a rocket ship but below that is really sluggish.
How much of this is normal and how much if this should I be trying to get fixed? I have never had good experiences w/ dealerships unless there is a light on or i can pinpoint the problems they are always ones to say "oh that's normal" (which on more than one occasion after difficult reasearch myself I have had the "non-issues" fixed at the dealership, go figure.). Even if it is lag I don't know how to "prove" it to the dealership...
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I dont have a tip but it doesnt sound right to me. Possibly the cam issue again maybe? And i hear exactly what you say with the dealers. On virtually every single problem ive had so far I'm always the one showing them the way. I just cant understand that. If you change the stuffy stock exhaust that will certainly help but if you car is as sluggish as you say then there has to be something else wrong. Does it make the correct boost on the gauge in both normal and sports C modes?
I have a tip, and haven't had any problems with it feeling slow. It feels everybit faster than my previous 07 M Coupe. If you want the mag times for 0-60 you'll need to torque brake, but it is by no means a slug with normal launching.

I am absolutely 100% sure I am starting in first (I always drive it in manual mode even though it's a tip). My 0-60 seems fine if i torque break (like mag times), although at that point it's at full boost and at 2.5k rpms and has enough to pull though to 4k or so which always seems fine above those rpms anyways..

Don't take this the wrong way, but have you driven other 997's? How does it compare? How are you measuring "normal?"
Just don't over think it, and if you are still concerned, take it to the dealer and get some peace of mind like the previous poster said.

You have to compare to know whether it's the car or just you getting so used to it.
Every time I feel my TT feels slow, I either go out in my RennTech S600 (620hp/740tq) or run something like another TT, Gallardo, Z06, F430, anything that is fast and then I feel better.

So, I did some quasi-scientific tests here. I have a gt2 passport gtimer it's probably not craaazy accurate but it does provide some consistent baseline level w/ itself atleast. Using the 0-30 timing, from a complete dead stop my avg time 2.08 (+- .05) if i just give it full throttle. If i break launch it from a dead stop, 0-30 is roughly 1.10. Not sure how accurate that is. On a side note 30mph is almost exactly 4k rpm's on the tip in first gear. The zero to sixty time likewise also differed by about a full second +- .10. From a dead stop no breaklaunch it is in the low 4's. I tested w/ the car warmed up and having a full tank of gass w/ PSM off, Sport on and PASM on.
Now I am almost starting to think the turbos just aren't spooling up as fast as they used too.
Now I just need to get a hold of another turbo or find someone who has the same setup.
Any thoughts, do those numbers seem normal (or does it really even matter since it's not that scientific)? should I be expecting the difference between dead stop and break launch to be closer together (maybe .5 or .6 intead of a 1.0 difference)?
No doubt. Those brake launched 60 mph times in the mid threes will wreck you for life.
