Exhaust Leak after fitting FVD Brombacher Exhaust ?
Hi
I have been having a look through this forum for a while now but this is my first post. I am from the UK but this site is by far one of the best for information so I thought maybe someone could help me out.
I spent yesterday fitting my new FVD Brombacher exhaust which I did enjoy but it turned into a long day as every nut holding the exhaust onto the turbo had deteriated so much that as soon as I put a spanner on them the outside just crumbled away. After a lot of swearing I managed to remove them all by heating them up and using some grips to free them.
Anyway after fitting the exhaust I started the car to find I had a small exhaust leak on one side only where the CAT connects into the muffler. This connection is the only one that is not of the cone design. I have tried to re-position the clamp with no success and also re-position the muffler so it slides onto the CAT pipe more but this leak it still there. I have not let the exhaust heat up fully so maybe this will seal it but I would have thought there should be no leak even when the exhaust is cold ?
Any help will be most appreciated

This may not be applicable to you, but the older tubi's were of that design. You were supposed to put it on loose then shake & settle it in, then tighten when everything seats. I understand that tubi's like mine are now 1 piece to eliminate this possibility.
Did you try relaxing everything and getting it to "settle"?

He's talking about the passenger side where there is a slip joint with a flat clamp. I would reposition the clamp to the very edge of the muffler side tube then tighten it in the horizontal bolt position. Worse case, add a second clamp adjacent to the first, but usually repositioning is all that is required, and tighten the **** out of them.
Thanks for the replies, TT surgeon you have the correct joint that I am having the problem with. Today I have tried to do the clamp up a bit tighter but managed to break it !!
I will order up a few new ones so if I need to I can fit two as you suggested. If I am correct do you also have the Brombacher exhaust fitted to your car and did you have any problems when fitting with this slip joint ?
I am away working for the next few weeks so I will have another look when I get back.
Cheers
