Help. Which intercoolers to buy?
Help. Which intercoolers to buy?
HI, looking to add an intercooler system to my 997TT. I currently have the following aftermarket mods: ECU flash, exhaust, headers, BMC filter, BRVs and plenum. I always put in 94octane from Chevron (Canada)
Would an aftermarket intercooler help, give an extra safety margin so timing is less likely to be pulled back?
Looking at AWE-Tuning for $3,000 and Evoms for about $3600.
Any one have experience with either of the above or others?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Awe
I have the AWE intercoolers and have been very happy with them. I can thrash it around the track all day in 100F temperatures (sometimes hotter) with no heat problems at all and constant power. AWE also has excellent after sales service. Can't comment or compare to other companies.
Good luck - and a very smart mod if your adding power and driving it hard.

Thank you for the rep. We take great pride in our intercoolers. Please click on the link below.

We have countless hours into our IC's. While fit and finish is important, the size, shape, fin type and count, along with end cap design are what separates a good intercooler from a great intercooler.
"Compared to stock, our cores are 37% larger (422 cubic inches vs 308 cubic inches). In contrast to the stock cores, ours are a high flow bar and plate style and are built to our charge row and fin count specs. These specifications resulted in improved intake temperatures by a massive 55F and improved drop pressure resistance through the core by 1 psi. Considering that extremely little trimming is involved to fit such effective units to the car, this is a huge engineering feat."
-Efficient bar/plate core style
-Cast and machined end tanks for optimized air flow
-Thick silicone boost hoses with proper profile where they mate to turbo
-Choice of Black, Blue, or Red hoses
-T-bolt clamps for extreme clamping force
-Direct plug and play install that is easily reversible
-+16 crank hp dyno verified
Designed in house by our Engineering Department, we use CAD and CFD for the prototypes.

Once that is done, we will then do power testing and IAT logging on both the race track and our in house Mustang Chassis Dyno.

I to have been considering new intercoolers as the next step/upgrade....the TPC‘s seem pretty interesting....larger size and “Hybrid tube & fin core design”. Has any one installed these...they claim minor mods are required.
After some research I ordered the TPC/Protomotive Hybrid I/Cs myself from Protomotive.
They haven't shipped yet so I don't have results to post.
Once I receive and install them, I will post PBox runs of before and after.
Being in Kuwait, this should really test them.

Does anybody know about any real benefits of getting any IC 'SWAIN' coated in black?
I understand the engineering/logic behind "Black Body Radiaton" but has anybody actually conducted a study on air temps to see if there indeed is a difference?

Yes. Do a search for thermal efficiency and see what Chad (cjv) has said about this. It is definitely effective.
i have the awe's on my setup which has over 700 hp..never had an issue. i also love the fact that you can see the intercooler tubing from the back of the car underneath..I have the red tubing.looks awesome.
