I believe that the Sledgehammer has been around for quite a bit more than a year.

My car has been running strong at the 700 rwhp plus level for quite some time now.

With the right bolt ons and tuning the Mezger is 100% safe at this level (mid 700's....everyone has been waiting for the Sledgehammer and Powells 864 rwhp car to blow, but it just does not happen).

What an amazing scary compilation! Are there any sites like this about tt engines or are they just built better?

I believe you just answered your own question.

I have seen plenty of Metzgers blown also in Road Racing...

Off topic, and i sure hope not another indication of things to come!
When i picked up my 08 Turbo cab in Zufenhausen, you were invited to lunch at their top floor restaurant
Now they park you in a cafeteria:eek:

Is the GT3 RS Hybrid running the 3.8 DFI or Mezger?

TT Surgeon 09-02-2010 11:45 AM

Mezger I believe.

GTsilver2010 09-02-2010 11:52 AM

4.0

its running a 4.0l racing mezger motor.

We have the world record with a bone stock long block 997.1TT running 1100+hp and a 4.25 second 60-130, which equals a 3.7 second 100-200 run.

Would we try the same thing on the new engine? Simply put - no.

Agreed!

Simply put, the new motor was a cost saving measure. Once I see race teams running it, I will believe.

So as a tuning company what is your roadmap for the new engines?

emadelta86 09-02-2010 02:46 PM

Maybe the new turbo, with the amazing PDK, will not need that kind of power to produce equal times.

ItalianStallion 09-02-2010 02:51 PM

It seems like the "weak point" as far as power levels go for the 997.2TT PDK is the tranny. That needs to be upgraded at 560whp from what I remember Champion posted up. They were pushing over 600whp in their manual 997.2TT

I think that if the 997.2's DFI motor can handle 700ish whp then it is fine by my book. Most guys who start building into the 800+whp range will probably want to swap out internals for stronger ones since the risk can outweigh the benefit (cost savings at first might turn out to be a handful once something breaks). Just IMO of course. The Metzger motor is legendary and I may wind up grabbing a 997.1 just because of how robust that motor is. The DFI is a step towards efficiency...and puts some money in Porsche's pockets.

I've been debating whether or not to get a 997.1 or pony up for a 2010- 997TT, but you just put the nail in the coffin...

Save ~$65k on a 08-09 vs 997.2, put $20k in the engine and have a reliable 750hp daily driver (and you're still up $45k on a new car). No brainer.
