2001 Golf 2 Door TDI. Modded to about a 50% HP increase, which around these parts is pretty funny: 135HP total. Close to 300 lbs/ TQ.

For less than $2k, new injection, flash tune, uprated clutch, and super tall 5th gear to cut down on noise/improve mileage. Labor included.

Koni yellow suspension and a bunch of other mods that escape my memory this morning.

45MPG average, with up to 52 when traveling. Up to 770 miles per tank of diesel.

It's a total beater and definitely necessary for maintaining a low profile (at times)

It feels strange for me to consider this but I've had my eye on the Volvo S60 T6 R-Design lately. Safety is big for me and I think a used one of these could make for a reasonably priced and decently fast daily driver.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on that model?

Of course I'm still looking for the right 997TT for weekend fun.

DD'ing 997 TT almost each day except if I have to haul my 11 month old son.
Rain, storm, sunshine do not matter, I drive each day.

When I need to haul my son I drive a BMW F30 3.20diesel.

Its a big mistake to try to "preserve the value of any car" by driving it less and by driving on a weekendly basis. I did this with my E36 M3 Euro spec. Drove it carefully. Now it has 60k miles and it sits as a garage queen.

IMO, If you buy a car drive it as much as you can. Trying to save the value by driving less is a gift for the second owner. The second owner will benefit from low mileage. First owner wont be able to experience the car fully.

I'd say my 997 TT is my daily driver. I also have a 2006 Range Rover Sport supercharged but I only drive it to haul stuff or people. If I had to I think I could have the 997 TT as my only car. Also have a Ducati 999.

This thread reminds me of a great quote I saw on Teamspeed awhile back.

"Having a nice car and not driving it because you are afraid of the wear and tear is like being married to a supermodel and not banging her routinely because you want her to be nice and tight for her next husband."

This was more in reference to garage queens than weekend cars.
