What is deviating stitching?
Is deviating stitching the fancy looking stitching in some interiors and can it be the same color as the interior is it always a different color?
Different color than what? Black or whatever the interior color is?
I guess I may have it and not even know it... but not sure why the person who ordered my car would pick "grey".. kinda bland on the black.

dark grey stitching is standard in 997 black interior. I've seen white, silver grey, red, yellow, green, orange and blue deviating stitching. It is quite costly when you add up all piece for whole interior. But thats one of the options you can't add aftermarket!
It is usually a contrasting color to the main color of the interior. For example with a black interior you could specify red or yellow stitching and that would be considered deviated.
For my terracotta interior the thread is somewhat lighter than the skins but that is not deviated as Porsche usually uses a slightly different color thread.
