switching from 996 x50 to a 997 gt2
switching from 996 x50 to a 997 gt2
Hello members,
At this moment I'm driving a 996 turbo x50, a manual. I have had the car for 5 years and I'm looking for some thing else. I don't mod my cars and don't track them to. I only drive it in the weekends. At this moment I' m negociating for a 997 gt2, with 26000 km on it. So I have a few questions.
Can I use the gt2 like my turbo, as a dd. Can I change the michelin cup tires and put normal tires on it(it rains a lot here ). Is it so much faster than my 996 turbo. Are there any special things to look at, are they also bullet proof? Can I use the launch control whenever I want and how much I want or does it stress the cluth or other things. Please people try to help me as much as possible.

Whats Up. The GT2 Is 2wd no good in the rain I own an 08. if you keep using the launch control you will end up needing a clutch after around 7k mikes . It is a very hard ride nothing like a 997 turbo . But it will hold its value. Ant NYC
Daily driver means a lot of things to different people. If you are a family of 3 or 4 and expect to go out to dinner together - then the answer is no.
If you have potholes and road hazards that are in poor repair - the answer is no.
If you are a single guy/gal and think that grocery shopping involves picking up a tenderloin and a side of garlic mash at the local deli, and maybe a bottle of Pino - then sure.
Since I've owned both cars, I feel pretty comfortable telling you that the GT2 drives like a go-cart and the 996TTx50 drives like a minivan when you compare the two.
Nitto Invos will probably wear much better than the MSPC or the Corsas. But they are no defense against standing rain.
In a sprint to 200 km/h, the 997 GT2 is over 2 seconds ahead and pulling. This translates into a distance of about 4-5 bus lengths.
In a quarter mile trap, the 997 GT2 traps nearly 14-16 mph faster than the 996 TTx50
