Gentlemen,

Thanks for your collective wisdom. TT Surgeon, Speed21, special thanks for your detailed explanation. Based on reading all the posts, I think the following are logical conclusion:

1) Due to inherent design of 997TT, there are resonance frequencies at low RPM. And if you install AM exhaust that has clamp connections, it will introduce a compromise to the original design and it most likely will vibrate at the resonance frequency. To minimize the vibration, You should ensure that all connections are properly tightened. The proper tightening, however, will not guarantee the elimination of vibration.

2) I have been spoiled by my 997 GT3 and E60 M5. GT3 has lovely low frequency gargle (kind of like 993) with high frequency scream at 8K RPM and it does not have any vibration. M5 has soft notes on low to mid RPM that is ideal for putting around town but the car wakes up when you push the “M” button and screams that unique V10 wail all the way upto 8250 RPM and it does not vibrate.

3) I tried to make my 997TT sound like these cars. AWE got the exhaust notes right but introduced interior vibration / buzz in the process.

I guess I have couple of things that I will do in the near future. I will take the car back to AWE (they did the exhaust install) and tried to tighten all the connections and see if that minimizes the vibration. After that I will decide whether I can live with the compromise or replace the AWE with stock exhaust.
<O</O
Thanks,
<O</O
Brian

I like the Dynamat idea. I'm also thinking of wrapping the exhaust tubing to try to stop or dampen their resonance.
Has anyone had luck with Dynamat?

Might consider another exhaust option if it doesn't pan out. Awe has a very nice cross flow exhaust, perhaps they'll hook you up. EP is always a drone free option.

Tubi race, no rattle, no drone, and pure evil at WOT!

Check your chrono, the trim ring is known to rattle.

I have had the AWE Gen 2 for 16 mths now Have done about 5000 miles with it. No issues, love the sound no additional drone. After EVOM tune, sounds even better. The only rattle I had came from factory and they have now changed out the center console and its gone away.
