Actually it's not as bad as it seems. I did consider placing the display and touch pad infront of the PDK but I didn't want to have to maneuver around the shifter when I needed to hit mute or deactivate laser shifter. At 6'4" it just easier for me to access the pad where I have it. I can easily reach my left had over and take care of this. Likewise the display is right at my eye level where I don't have to look down and take my vision off the road. It was just a matter of preference. Bottom line is, it's one heck of a detector that has saved me many times.

I am getting an install of this Passport:

1. How important is that Blue LED screen to be able to see? I wanted to hide it away (in the console) and put the button pad portion in the ash tray. I'll have the LED button but in the instrument cluster.

2. That said, I can either put the button pad or the BLUE LED screen in the ash tray. The other in the console. Which piece can be hidden in the console the least inconvenience for me the driver?

Due to (my own) limited install options, one of these pieces has to be hidden. SO, which is least important to be able to see / use easily?

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

One word of advice is its more ergonomic if you had change the placement of the controls and screen. you NEED to make it easy to lockout positions

Pics of 9500ci Install

I thought I would show pictures of the install that I had done in my 997.1 TT. The indicator is attached to the front of the dome light where it is not visible from the outside and the control module is in the ashtray.

THis is my exact planned install. How bright is that display by your mirror at night? Can a cop see it if behind you?

I'm doing the LED in the instrument cluster.
Thanks

I had a piece fabricated between the mirror and the window for the diaplay unit. Then I put the control unit in the ashtray

There was a shop in CT that fabricated a leather cover for the indicator and mounted to the dome light so it looked built in and factory. Anyone have a picture of that? I found the thread on the forum, but the pics are deleted.

No, it is not visible from the rear and I have the display set for auto brightness so at night it gets dim.

I spent days looking at videos on YouTube and found this guy who did videos of several installations including a 911 Carrera, California, Lamborghini, etc. Search "marcogag" on YouTube and check out his installs for ideas.
