Does the ipod ever turn off or power down? I have it hooked up with the cable that came with the car (not the USB port) - the round port in the center glove box.

Seems like the ipod never turns off. Is this an issue for the life of the ipod or the car battery?

I honestly never looked at mine, as it is stowed away in the center console. I never take it out, but I only drive my 997.2 every other weekend & have never had low battery issues.

 

When you use an ipod with the round port you also have to plug in that other usb plug that's part of that cable or it won't charge the ipod. I usually don't look at the ipod when I drive but it always picks up where we left off after a stop / start so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that when properly connected it shuts off with the car.

It's also possible that different versions of the ipod behave differently, I know that's true with my other cars.
