It's fine in a race car as you don't come to a a standstill very often to where you have to take off again....like you do in traffic. I personally wouldn't like to use one on a daily driver car but to each his own.
I would agree with most of what you said. But, having driven cars with this clutch a lot, I will say that it's really not as difficult as some make it out to be. For one thing, it's only the stop>first engagement that's tough but it's VERY easy to get used to if you change your driving style just a little. After 10 minutes, it's just like driving any other car.

+1. Puck style clutches are not easy to drive. First gear starts are real tricky. I wouldn't recommend it either, unless your car is a dedicated track car.

To be honest Tom i've never sampled a 997tt with the Sachs puck disc but i have forgetable memories of a GTR i owned which was heavily modded with an os- giken puck clutch....which is much the same as what you are talking about. It was an absolute ***** in traffic, fine once you're moving. They also rattle like some say the 997tt with the single mass does at idle in neutral. Now if a 997tt is anything like that then good luck with that. I couldn't count the number of times i was asked hey is something broken in your car! Maybe i'm just getting too old for a set up like that in a Porsche...

Aha, thanks Paul and Tom. I'm very happy with the Sachs II.5. I didn't bother with the GT2 slave conversion b/c I like the stock pedal feel. I'm not sure if and when I'll get to the stage where this clutch can't hold the power but since my car is a dd I'd have to find a solution that was at least reasonably comfortable to use without lurching like a drivers ed student.

Give it some time...we're going to be testing a new clutch here very soon. The goal with it is basically stock-like drivability, with the capability of handling 900 HP at the wheels. Cross your fingers...lol
