Just plugged in my CTEK Battery Charger - Question regarding ventilation

Just plugged in the charger and read the user manual and it makes a few references that adaquate ventilation is required due to battery gases, etc...

Other than plugging the charger into the cig lighter, should I open the frunk so the battery can ventilate?

Also, the manual mentions adding distilled water in each cell until full. I feel stupid, but should I be doing this? I thought the batteries are closed units so I'm going to go with no.

Basically I plugged it in, ran the power cord out the door and shut the door. Am I missing anything?

Thanks.

Sobrut911 is infamous around these parts
I use the battery tender which is a trickle charger and I just plug it into the cig lighter and close the door. I've never had a problem. However, it's not a bad idea to check the levels periodically, assuming it's not a sealed maintenance free battery.

Trickle Charge

I assume it is within a garage. I always crack the windows a bit. Just habit I guess.

I will monitor every few days and plan to drive the car on the nicer winter days.

Yes, the car is in the garage. I ran the power wire out the door and shut it as opposed to opening the window a bit. I think it's fine and would rather keep dust, etc. out.

The instructions came with LARGE warnings about venting the battery and just wanted to make sure I don't need to do anything else.

Thanks.

I've had my battery tender hooked up since October with no issues. The car is in my attached garage, and have a car cover to protect from dust.

The battery is vented so I wouldn't foresee a problem unless the vent tube was obstructed or if the battery were in such bad shape that it started gassing during the charge process. Also, if the maintainer or charger were defective it could cause gassing from an overcharge situation.
