A question for those who "moved up" to the 911 TT

The 911 TT is a icon. For those of you who "moved up" the food chain of cars to finally arrive at 911 TT ownership, did reality live up to the fantasy, or is the car disappointing in any way?

Awesome car. The exhaust is too quite and I just had to tighten up the factory suspension a little since we do DEs. If I just DD the car I would leave it bone stock with exception to swapping the exhaust for a little more sound!

I keep telling everyone, the cars leading up to the tt have just one label. "Tuition". You pay it to learn. And the lesson is, there is no substitute...

If the 911 TT is not worthy, it should fall from that ultimate icon a long time ago! Consumers are very honest and brutal.

Do not doubt, it is all that and a bag of chip (Giving you are looking for the ultimate street sport car.)

Well I started my journey many years ago with Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 to Supra TT to E36 M3 back to Supra TT to turbocharged E36 M3 to '91 964 Turbo to E55 and finally to 997 TT to name few.

'91 is the only car that I have kept all these yrs and have no notion of selling it either.

I bought the 997 TT hoping it would be the final and ultimate DD where I would stop but I guess I might have under estimated it.

Don't take me wrong, the car is great. It has the style, the presence and the pinnache but for some reason, the way the stock 480 power is delivered, the first 3 gears are just too short especially for in town driving, keeps you longing for something with bit more torque down low.

For me the journey continues untill I find a car that has the looks & the pinnache factor of a 997 TT but with the power delivery of an E55.

In the interim, I am going to see if a tune alone would fix this issue with out having to fork out more money.

Do I need to put on a flame suit now ?

I moved up the sports car line in a similar fashion to many here. The TTS absolutely lives up to the billing, no question.

Given the cars in your signature, I would venture to guess that you will love it. I personally love these cars and this is my 4th Porsche (992 C4S, 993 Turbo, 996 GT3 and now a 997.1 TT). All of my cars, including the Porsches were highly modified.

Just a word of caution, the technique for driving a 911 is totally different than the cars in your signature and as such, take advantage of the Driver Education track days and learn the car. Once you do, nothing else is as exciting.

This car is a bargan for what you get. the performance is staggering. I am still pushing the limits of this car. I have been to various driving schools and as I approach the limits of my skill I am in no way even close to those that the car has dialed in. It feels like you can whip the wheel 180 degrees and literally trurn yourself inside out. The confidence this car inspires is perhaps its scariest trait.

Biggest tip I can give any new 911 driver is don't get fooled into thinking your better than you are. Take it slow and get to know this car. It is stuck to the road like its on rails but as agile as your imagination.

To me the sound it perfect. I have been there done that with aftermarket exhaust. I enjoy the power, the sound of the engine and the sport button is just more of everytthing good about this car.

I am not disapointed abot anything other than the fact that I can't give it more seat time!

I loved my 09 C2s for six months until I dove a 11 GT3. I loved my GT3 for six months until I drove my 11 TTs Cab. In 360 days three very different Porsches.
If you can put the light front end and the handling of the GT3 all in one that would be perfect!!
Oh yes that's a GT2 RS

For me there is no other car that compares as exciting as a DD IMO

Having come from a 996 Carrera to a 2006 Carrera 4S to a new Porsche Turbo S...

Well, the differences between all three cars I've owned is astounding. When I got the 4S, I thought there couldn't possibly be a better car on the planet. Then, I drove my business partner's '09 Turbo... That was it.

The power in the Turbo is just so intoxicating and with PDK there is no lag. You hit the gas and you're a flipping' rocket. Getting to 60 MPH under 2.7 seconds when the 4S is practically a football field behind at 4.5 seconds makes you fully understand what big acceleration and torque feel like. Putting the pedal to the floor in my Turbo S is like no other feeling any other Carrera can give you.

its an AWD 911 so it is a different feel.

the speed is stunning but it is hard to use it in most of the gears if you like your licence.

personally i think 1st & 2nd are pretty amazing gears - easy redline in 2nd but no impounds.

turbos make an amazing sound when they hit but it is a short burst - fun though.

i don't think i would have another 911 - but i miss the mid engined convertable.

Went from twin turbo rx7 last generation , 996 coupe , 996 c4s, 996 tt, to my current 997tt , and have not one reservation of each upgrade. The first difference was all wheel drive but them the twin turbo and then the 997 luxury combined. Each step was worth every penny.

I have driven AWD Turbo cars for the last 10 or so years ,
some standard and the rest modified had one particular car dynoed @ 400 horse per 1000 kg very fast , even had the rare STI 22B dynoed @ 400 hp per 1500 kg
Then I went to the current Audi RS4 , N/A V8, great car , but missed the boost !!!!!!!
Had that 3 years, I then test drove overnight a 996 TT X50 , What a car , what a buzz
I have dreamed of this all my life,
Then they said take this out for a test overnight , 2007 997 TT , wow, words can not explain what a car like this can do , It is like driving a large go kart, it is everything i dreamt it would be like .
I could go on for hours , any way I wont
cheers
PS : after one year of ownership , when I start my baby up, it is like the first time I drove it. !!!

It has been a dream of mine since the age of 12 when I went to the Porsche factory.. Worked hard and was finally able to purchase a 997 Turbo. I have always been a car guy and have nice cars mostly muscle type. This car hands down lives up to everything I was hoping for and more since the mods.. I still get excited every time I drive it and very happy with my choice.. Amazing color, 6 speed, all wheels drive and around 550 HP. Who would not like it ?
