Difficulty starting

Hey gang- interesting issue with my 08 997tt. Every now and then, the car will not turn over when I turn the key. The engine begins to start, then decides not to. I have to turn the key off, then restart again. It always starts on the second try. It does this intermittently. Strangely, the check engine light was on for a day, and before I could take it to the shop, it went off.

I am going to take it to the shop when I get a day off, but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what might be causing it. I had a new battery installed three months ago, and I doubt this is the issue...

Perhaps your starter motor or a solenoid is starting to fail. Best get it checked out while you can still drive it to the shop. Best,

Could be a bad ignition switch. Have you ever noticed whether it has anything to do with how you insert the key or maybe a different key you use?

It could be a charging problem. There must be a reason you had to replace the battery. I've been putting my 996 TT on a charger once a week since my last battery died after just 2 years (even after I replaced the alternator).

Interesting. So I dropped it off at the shop today for 30 minutes. They replaced the clutch sensor, which they told me commonly causes this problem. Pretty painless really...

had mine in for the same thing, clutch sensor replaced. Car still did it. I just replaced the battery myself 10 minutes ago with an Interstate and car starts like it should, night and day difference vs. the stock crap battery which was just over 4 years old. I guess Im lucky I got that much out of it.

You should still put it on a battery charger once a week or your new battery will die prematurely also.
