Anyone powder coat their tailpipes
I fear it wont last. The temperature of your exhaust reaches very high numbers. It will most likely flake.
I have had mine ceramic coated. Interesting process.
See here, zirotec is where I sent mine, they are in the UK (no affiliation)
and the end result

Have also read on this forum that BBQ paint works, with a little home oven baking and a spirited drive. There is 2000 deg F BBQ paint apparently. Do a search...

You need to ceramic coat, not powder coat - search, lot of others have done this, less than $100
You should be fine as long as the correct powdercoating process is used. The standard coating most places use may burn off, but the higher temp stuff should be fine. It depends almost entirely on what type of exhaust we're talking here too. The factory system has much lower EGTs coming out of the tailpipes than many aftermarket setups because freer flowing gases in those mean the exhaust is hotter when it reaches to tips. If you're running race pipes, then I wouldn't use powdercoating at all and would only trust plating.
Hi guys
here's more info about exhaust coatings.
I've been in the ceramic coating business by the past. I can confirm what Dianic and Teflon-Jones said. Zircotec is the best process you may want to use if you're in Europe. In the US, you have Swain Tech. There could be others.
High temp ceramic coating spray paint like the ones we used to work with won't last as long on headers AND will be far to provide such a good thermal insulation like the thermal spray coating can provide. Remember, this is what you want on a turbo engine for spool up (headers)! So in this respect, you may want to coat any part of the exhaust with spray paint but headers.
As far as powder coating with silicone, I would do it only on tips. The more silicone you have in the powder (for better thermal capabilities), the more difficult it is to apply on the part. For tips, it will be no problem, for tail pipes, I wouldn't do it. I would rather go with ceramic spray coating (and for headers... thermal spray coating).
I hope it will help.
