Question Sport airfilter for 997 Turbo

Do these things bring anything for 997 Turbo?
Is it a good idea to install one (from BMC for example)?
The car already has exhaust (200cell) and software on it.

I had one, did not use it much so run stock paper filters now. I dont think its worth looking to filters until you have upgraded the turbos, the stock box and filter flow plenty of air for these cars otherwise. the added dirt that gets in there is not worth it plus the chance of oil fouling the MAF sensor was a deal breaker once I read that.

Thanks, gmoney!

SO I take it on your 580hp tune you run stock paper filter?

I see. Well, then I keep mine stock as well, was just changed anyway. My car has less hp than yours anyway, and I do not need more noise or eventual MAF failures and dirt. Thanks!

Gmoney, while we are on this subject, what's the approximate mileage at which you should change the airfilter according to Porsche? I think mine still has the original at 22K miles.

Thanks

Im not sure, but I'd change it at 20k for sure. When I pull mine out yearly I cant see if dirt has built up much, even after stripping off the foam to see the paper it looks clean. Typically on my other cars I can see the dirt build up but those are driving in more dusty freeway environments where the Turbo is mostly weekend and date night type of use close to the beach.

Thanks gmoney! Yeah I've pulled it out before and didn't see much dirt on it. Vaccumed the surface (haha, I know ) and put it back. But I think I'll go ahead and buy one. Can you recommend any cheap places to pick one up? I don't like using the Newport Beach dealer--pretty pricey on parts. PM me if you prefer.

I order from suncoast, pelican parts or sonnen (porscheoemparts . com), but sometimes shipping on the filter alone negates the discount from walking into the dealer.

I have a BMC filter as I have always K+N style and aftermarket filters in my cars , I just want to have as much clean airflow as possible. The cleaning issue and fouling MAF is caused by to much oil on the filter.. If its done correctly there is no problems as I have had mine for for a while...

I seem to recall from somewhere that BMC filters aren't supposed to oiled. It may have said it on the package.

Detergent formulated for maximum cleaning. Low viscosity oil for best air permeability. Race tested for performance and reliability. They have a kit just for cleaning and oil once again dont over oil the filter, This is where you run into problems...
